Mini Spling!

Oh my gosh!!

Sooo I've always loved Mini Coopers, but yesterday really solidified how awesome they are!

After Shane got his Mini in February, he became a member of this group called Michigan Mini Motoring Club and yesterday was their Spring motoring event (Spling). We met 5 other Minis in Royal Oak at 7:15 and headed for Brighton. Along the way we picked up new members--they were mostly waiting on the on-ramps in rows of three and would speed up to join us. It was like we were cloud of bees...everyone we passed had no idea how many Minis there were and just had these looks of astonishment as more and more Mini surrounded their cars or formed a line in front of them. (BTW--Mini drivers are very polite and respectful--there was not much passing and when we weren't just a "cloud" of Minis we were usually in a line--a long line!! driving in synch).

We finally reached Ionia to pull into a Pilot Station and join another 20 Minis--there had to be at least 50 of us and everyone's car was different--different colors, stickers, designs and features...it's unbelievable how many different ways there are to design Minis! It was really cool (I'll post Shane's pictures later). We then headed as a mass line down country roads to the race track where we joined a few more Minis and got to take the car around the track a few times!

IT WAS A BLAST!! Shane really pushed the limits of his car around the corners, it handled it beautifully. I laughed the entire time because it was really funny to see all these Minis racing around a race track. And the G-force from the turns and wondering how much the car could actually handle made it exciting! I really loved it!

After the race track we just drove down some more very hilly country roads and passed people doing yard work. Needless to say they had to just stop and watch as we raced by. The roads were excellent for driving with all the hills and turns and it was overall just a lot of fun!! We finally ended at a covered bridge and it took a good 5 minutes for all of the Minis to get through--but it was really pretty at the same time!!

There has to be something to be said about a mass amount of people doing something insynch! It's just really cool!

Overall--I think the Mini was one of the best decisions we've made in a long time and we will certainly continue to have loads of fun with it!! Shane and I plan to make more trips all over Michigan just driving and finding new cool places.

I'm excited!!
