Been a long time...
But I saw that Drew and Grace made an LJ comeback so I thought I might post a little what's up. Both my sailings were cancelled today so i've been cooped up all day reading articles about fish farmed salmon and watching re-runs of CSI...not very productive but sometimes you just need those days!
This summer has gone by SO fast! Chris and I spent June in Germany with his family soaking up the sun, enjoying my fill of schnitzel and watching world cup soccer of course!
When I got back I finally quit my job at Big Al's...I appreciated all the great experience I got working there but it was a relief to get out of there finally. I've been working the rest of the summer on the whale watching boats. I love my job and all the amazing people I get to meet but I am really starting to hate being part of an industry that is guilty of loving the whales to death.
I had a job interview at the Vancouver Aquarium this week to work on their Animal Encounters program (ie. people pay $100 to feed a whale) which would be cool but one day a week. I also applied at Science World and an environmental testing company Cantest. Hopefully something will work out by the end of the season...one of the girls is also trying to get me in at the Nature Park doing ed. programs so im not worried at this point.
I also put a request in to a whale researcher in the Queen Charlottes to take me on for a month but i HIGHLY doubt anything will come of it...but if you dont take chances you dont know what can happen!
The biggest news of this summer is our decision to move to Germany for a year trial. The opportunities they have over there for Chris and I are just too good to pass up without checking it out! The Uni is free for me and I am pretty much choose whatever topic I want to study...but before we get too excited we are gonna try a trial to give me time to learn the language and adjust to leaving friends and family again.
Whelps I think thats about all....OH and ALEX (aka ZA) got married a couple of weeks ago!!! Im so happy for her and chris! It was the most fun wedding since my mom's and she looked so beautiful! Ok well I have a boat tomorrow morning (hopefully) so I'm off to bed...nite all!
