Greetings from the tree sanctuary

Dec 21, 2015 23:50

Very belatedly, Happy Gauda Prime Day! I'm late because, rather appropriately, I have been to a funeral, but either side of that flying trip to London I have carried out my usual GP activities.

One of those is to take some form of vegetation to the gravestone of my former primary school teacher and her family, in whose house I first watched Blake, 34 years ago. I worked out that it would be rather late to fit this in when I got back from London, so, as the flower shop and the church are both on the bus route to the station, I did it this morning.

The funeral was of the last of my aunts, who died earlier this month, in her 94th year. She was the widow of my uncle Donald, whom I've mentioned from time to time, including here; he died in 1972, so Beryl has been a widow for more than half her adult life, and all of our generation are older than he was. It was a good day, and I saw various cousins, some of whom I haven't met for several years. Here is a slightly blurry photo of the family in 1960, a couple of years before I was born, which was used in the printed order of service.

I got home a little before ten, and then turned to my other traditional activity on Gauda Prime Day, dressing the Christmas tree (or should I call it the Gauda Prime tree?) to the soundtrack of Blake. Unfortunately my DVD player decided it would play the pictures without the soundtrack, which I didn't think would work as well (the DVD is working in my computer, but that's on a different floor from the tree). Somewhat to my surprise, the video player turned out to work, though I haven't used it for some years, so, once I'd fast-forwarded Warlord, I was able to get on with the job.

The Gauda Prime tree!

And finally, as I have mentioned elsewhere, the Vila Restal Memorial Cabinet, which contains booze, Blake's Seven videos (you can see Blake is missing at the far end, because it was in the machine) and Christmas cards from B7 friends. I am sure Vila would approve of this combination.

Until next year!
