Theatre round-up

I really ought to get in a quick theatre post here, before the next round of theatre...

On Saturday, I went to a play at the Globe in London for the first time. It was the Oresteia, the second one I've seen this year, following the modern update with extra instalment at the Almeida, and there's a third one coming up at Home. This was a fairly ( Read more... )

I liked your theatre-going VERY much!
Well, I am proud enough to tell you that I have visited the Globe, alas only the visitor´s centre, but I could see the details and how the stage works and all. For more, there was no time.
What I remember about old Greek tragedy and all, I think they did a very good job with Oresteia. Because these plays were not soft, not at all! And I am pleased that they had this ending and they had fun which is always the spice of any performance.
What is it like for you to see your grandfather´s plays? Oh, it is definitely exciting for me!
And I remember that J.Winterson´s novels were quite liked by my customers when I was a librarian at the British Centre. Again - a great event.
I look forward to your next post!

I'd got as far as the giftshop once - I happened to be walking past so went in to buy the programme for a play which had transferred there from the Royal Exchange in Manchester, because they'd sold out of programmes at home. But there was a play on at the Globe that afternoon, so I couldn't go any closer to the theatre.

There was an awful lot of blood in the Oresteia... I couldn't help thinking that Agamemnon would have managed a wash somewhere on the trip between Troy and Mycenae!

It was one of my grandfather's minor works, but it was still good to see, even in a very small-scale production, and I think the one-act play is an interesting form - the dramatic equivalent of a short story. I think they used to stage them before a full (four-act) play at the Gaiety Theatre, rather than in a bunch as here.

Yes, the one-act play is a very good format for drama. Wonderful!:-)
