You may remember that last July I asked for opinions on which of three designs for stained glass windows I should choose for my sitting room. (The choice was
here - later
mocked up by the amazing
entropy_house.)
Today was the day when the finished windows were installed!
Halfway through the work (I just missed getting a shot of old and new styles in place at the same time):
The finished version - I've found it quite difficult to photograph both at once, because there seems to be too much light (maybe it would be easier on a less sunny day) - not sure whether this means the camera is automatically adjusting to focus on the indoor room, though I've tried fiddling with settings. This is the best I've managed so far.

The right-hand window:
The evening light falling through the left-hand window on to the wall:
I also acquired a second DVD case, or rather two new cases, because it turned out the shop's new stock were five centimetres lower than the original, but they kindly said I could bring that one back and take two matching ones (and my joiner kindly drove me there and back so I didn't have to make three bus journeys carrying furniture). Visible either side of the fireplace (which is also due to be replaced eventually).
The next plan is to install the other two stained glass windows, which arrived with the first two, in the bedroom above the sitting room - unfortunately we have to tear out the current fitted wardrobes, which completely cover one of the present windows, first. We had some preliminary discussion about how we were going to do this, and reconstruct the room keeping enough wardrobe space (ideally with some double rails, which the current ones lack) while adding more drawer space, when I suddenly had a brainwave: we can take a leaf out of Old Trafford's book by reorienting the bed to face north-south instead of east-west! This would put it against the old chimney breast and between the two stained glass windows, and free the long blank wall where it's currently positioned (as dictated by the existing wardrobe layout) for a wider wardrobe. Now all I have to do is work out where to put all the stuff stored in that room during what threatens to be a rather lengthy operation, as ideally we'd redecorate in between removing the old wardrobes and fitting the new ones.
