World Book Day meme

From altariel, and others:

The book I am reading: Well, I'm not really reading books at the moment, because we're going to press, but the one I was halfway through when I ran out of time to read and which I hope to resume in about a week is E. W. Hornung's A Thief in the Night, ie one of the collections of Raffles short stories.
The book I am writing: Just don't ask. See above. This is displacement activity before I get back to proofs.
The book I love most: Bloody hell, is this a serious question? I'd have difficulty producing a list of ten. But one? I really have no idea at present. It might take me a year to think of an answer. (A day or so later: if I have to come up with a topical favourite, I might pick the Authorised Version of the Bible, whose 400th anniversary we are celebrating.)
The last book I received as a gift: The Poems of Francis Thompson, from
legionseagle, for my birthday. Possibly the one John bought in Sedburgh in Lift Up Mine Eyes To The Hills, which you should read if you haven't done so.
The last book I gave as a gift: It must have been at Christmas, when I gave away more than one, but the one I was really pleased about was The Little Boys and their Boats, by Stephen Bone and Mary Adshead, which I managed to find for my brother. It was his favourite book as a child, and tells the story of two boys who go on a whirlwind trip round the world (it's not clear how) inspecting different types of boats before deciding what would suit them. With colour illustrations. He seemed very pleased, but couldn't decide whether to scribble in the margins again.
The nearest book on my desk: Wisden 2010.
