Bookcase meme

pinkdormouse made the appealing suggestion of a photograph-your-bookshelves meme. I hope I've got them all now; I'd got eight pictures up and ready to post a few minutes ago, and then realised I'd forgotten some shelves in the dining room.

For some reason, it seemed important to explain the provenance of the various cases, as well as their contents...

Main bookcase in study. Originally belonged to my grandfather at Meadowbank, and then to my parents. Mostly Wisdens and large cricket books.

Second bookcase in study. Previously belonged to my aunt. Mostly annuals, county histories and biographies.

Third bookcase in study. Previously belonged to my late friend Harry Smith. More annuals and reference books.

Kitchen bookcase. Bought in sale. Bedside Guardians, cookery books, stuff about cats, guidebooks, photo albums, telephone directories etc.

Main bookcases in dining room (which doubles as extra spare room, hence sofa bed). Originally from my mother's nursery; when I had them stripped of paint, the man remarked that they probably started out as one very wide bookcase, as the grain of the shelves matched up, and the uprights were a different wood. Children's books and grown-up novels.

Other bookshelves in dining room. Came with the house, but had to be rebuilt by my joiner as the previous people kept religious tracts on the shelves and they were evidently very short books (height rather than length). Now mostly Classics and modern language dictionaries, phrase books etc, plus Ricardian stuff.

Main bookcases in sitting room. Originally belonged to my grandfather at Meadowbank, and then to my uncle. Plays, poetry, biographies etc (many of the plays also came from my grandfather).

Built-in shelves in sitting-room. Came with house, and one day I hope to replace them with something more substantial. Don't really count as bookshelves, as mostly occupied by videos and DVDs, but a few large books in the bottom left.

Second bookcase in sitting-room. Previously belonged to friends of my mother. Top shelf serves as drinks cabinet, second shelf holds Blake's 7 videos, but third shelf contains large books (mostly on art). I put Christmas cards from B7-related friends here, so some of you may recognise yours.
