Remember back when there were small businesses? Bill's hardware and Jim's hardware competed in your town. Bills was larger, nicer, and a little cheaper, good for a quick run to buy a tool. Jim's had excellent knowledgable service. Both sponsored the high school sports teams and clubs. They were respectful to each other, both well known and liked in the community. Bill and Jim may have been competitors, but both had their comfortable niches, and the customers saw the value in both.
"Do I need guidance on what tools to buy for this project from Jim, or do I get a full packaged set from Bill?"
Those stores closed long ago having to compete with walmart, target and home depot. While many of the previous values of competing stores did not survive this transition, one thing did remain... Customers seeing the value in each stores niche.
"Do I feel like putting pants on?"
