Hancock

Went and saw Hancock last night, one of those few times I just went and saw a movie by myself because I wanted to see it.

It was good; I mean, yeah, it was a Will Smith movie, so there's a lot of little cute moments, but it also had some elements to it that I identified with. And an overall theme of sadness, isolation, that is missing from all the superhero movies. I mean, Batman? Todd McFarlane summed that one up: a billionaire who decides to fight crime to avenge murdered parents; who can relate to that?
Superman has always been way too popular to really imagine him being upset about something. And while Hancock kind of went to the other extreme in order to tell the story, it kind of had to. Personally, I like that they didn't explain every little thing, either. Life isn't about knowing it all; it's about knowing enough to get through the moments that tear at us.

So the movie made me a bit melancholy. I liked it, and I'll probably go see it again. Guess I just had to note that I'm also a little sad.
