Happy thing - Day 3!

Today's happy thing is something that very frequently makes me happy: reading online tutorials for craft and do-it-yourself projects that I may or may not ever actually get around to trying. As anyone who watches my del.icio.us can attest, I go through mad bookmarking sprees that inundate my list with pages about how to make things out of paper or decoupage furniture or whatever.

My favorite tutorials that I really want to try at the moment are:

Tinwork made from soda cans - You can make little metal boxes that look like they came from Cost Plus and it's recycling! The only downside I can see to this is that I'm sort of worried that me being me, I'd land myself in the emergency room having sliced open an artery with a cut aluminum edge.

Cork board made from bottle corks - I actually have a jar of bottle corks sitting on my desk. I've been saving them for some time on the principle that I knew I'd eventually run across a crafty way to make use of them.

Globe decorations made with string - I am wary of actually turning them into lamps like in the instructions because fires are bad, but I can see decorating the store with big shiny string globes next Christmas (I could use glitter! That would annoy Mr. Bill so much!)

Easy roman blinds - I need new curtains in our room like wow. These look easier to make and involve less sewing. Any time you can replace sewing with hot glue, I am there.

How to alter a t-shirt - eattheolives pointed this out a while ago. I want to try the first pattern on one of my larger shirts. They're mostly just lying around now because even though I love them for whatever they have on them (the Wonder Woman logo, an add for the Unicorn Rodeo) I almost never wear them outside because I hate feeling like I'm twelve again and have no curves.

Oddly, none of those involved much papercrafting, which is my usual drug of choice. I must be branching out. Or at least thinking about branching out, since I haven't tried my hand at any of these, just yet.

linkage of excellence, craftiness
