And shook the valley of the shadow

1. Swish New Computer: I have a new computer. O.O I was scheduled to inherit thomas_a_kempis's old rig because he's buying himself a new one in order to more efficiently blow up virtual bad guys in Crysis, but somewhere along the line not_a_monk got Dad's old rig instead of me, and I got a shiny new computer for my birthday (which is nearly two months away but hey, no complaints here). Surprise computer is surprising! Also extremely sleek and swish, like a penguin in the water. They keyboard glows! I love it already! *cuddles it* I can't decide what to name it, but I've narrowed it down to three possibilities: Jujube (because it is shiny and little like candy!), Cozy Heart (after the penguin CareBear Cousin), or Rhadamanthus. *waves at johncwright*

2. Movies: Have I mentioned recently that I love "Meet the Robinsons"? Because I love it like popsicles. I discovered that Mr. Bill had somehow never seen it even though we own it, so we watched it as part of our extremely quiet and red-wine-centric New Year's Eve celebration. Rather appropriate, really, though I didn't plan it that way. There are worse mottos than "Keep Moving Forward" for ringing in the New Year. Also there are time machines and robots and zombies and dinosaur fights. Which are (hopefully) not really related to 2009 in any way, but really, when do you not need a good dinosaur fight?

3. Craftiness: So I know I always say that papercrafts in general and quilling in particular are teh crack and to just say no, but you know what is really bad? Hole punches. The kind that punch holes shaped like hearts and flowers and what have you. Because they're expensive and there are three thousand different shapes, and you buy one shaped like a daisy because it's on sale and you figure that might be handy to use with your quilling, and then you go home and discover how useful and versatile it is and then you want to buy ALL OF THEM and that is just over the line. There is a line, and that is way, way over it. *nod*

4. Writing: I got two fics finished and sent off to beta during the holiday weekend! This calls for hooray arms: \o/ Granted, both fics were within an ace of being done already and all that I really needed to do was sit my butt down and write and tweak and re-write for a few hours, but the fics in question have been in Almost Finished Limbo for so long that it feels like an enormous achievement. So I stand by the hooray arms.

5. Bookses: Still reading Night Watch (the PTerry novel, which is still awesome) and discovered that one of my friends from choir is reading Night Watch the Russian novel. That amused me more than it should have. Also reading Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House by Cheryl Mendelson, which is a massive tome about all aspects of homemaking and housekeeping. It's a topic in which I could really use some instruction with a sense of structure. As a bonus, Mendelson is a decent writer with a sense of humor and an interest in the history and evolution of current standards and practices. So the book is interesting as well as useful and occasionally very funny.
