And the weekend's not even over, yet!

So far, this weekend, I have:

1. Gone to LA for karaoke and dinner with izhilzha and sarcasticval (who are so fun to hang out with that it should be illegal) followed by coffee and a chat with Izh, followed by driving home while Val kept me awake over the phone. I have to say, having friends in LA is way more fun that I would have credited once upon a time.

1b. On a related note, it turns out that I can't sing Sarah McLachlan songs. I can do a species of justice to Queen and Journey, provided you're looking for the Indy Girl version. Izh rocks "Renegade" by Styx, a fact that I find endlessly entertaining. Val (who knows all the best places to have fun) is infectious in her enthusiasm and her rendition of "Popular" from Wicked is not to be missed.

2. Hiked 2.5 miles, mostly in the sun, across some really pretty hills out behind my boss's ranch.

3. Ridden horseback for the first time in six years (also at the ranch).

4. Eaten copious amounts of red meat and pie, then fallen asleep on my husband's shoulder, in the shade.

5. Watched Children of Men. Reaction: Erm. I would have been fine with it barely resembling the book if it had done so while making some sort of internal sense, but...it didn't. Also, it was way more depressing, which is quite a feat if you know the book.

6. Watched Sliding Doors. Reaction: Cool idea, loved the banter, am impressed at the execution, and am more or less okay with ending. I was occasionally distracted by how much I loved everyone's accents.

7. Gotten out of bed the day after the ranch party and discovered that my legs have some thoughts on the subject of riding horseback after a six-year period during which all the pertinent muscle groups have had time to completely vacate the premises.

8. Helped cook and serve our church's annual end-of-summer pancake lunch. Mmm, sausage.

9. Taught my almost-a-year-old nephew how to wear a plastic colander as a hat.

10. Quilled several dozen leaves and petals that now need to be glued into flowers.

11. Finally seen the Family Guy Star Wars Special, courtesy of my brother. Was most amused and strangely moved to watch A New Hope again, for the first time in ages. Aw, Star Wars, it's been so long, I miss you.

12. Marathoned the last disc and a half of Gilmore Girls, Season 2 with the pixies and mother-in-law. Oh the drama! The indecision! The tension! The hilarious banter! Why do I care so much about this show?!

No wonder I'm so tired, today. Have spent the morning reading Ellis Peters (I kind of want to live in a remote Welsh village, now, and I want Brother Cadfael to be my drinking buddy) and am now heading downstairs to tackle all the cleaning that I haven't been doing all weekend. Have a lovely holiday, everyone!
