The rules are easy, just post 10 things that recently made you happy! Then tag 10 people and force them to post this meme on their LJs. Because it is good. Everyone needs a little happiness once in a while.
1. Connie Willis and her amazing fiction. Doomesday Book was stunning and luminous,
"Inside Job" was brilliant, Lincoln's Dreams was haunting and compelling, several of the stories in Fire Watch were excellent and To Say Nothing of the Dog is making me laugh out loud on a routine basis. How is this woman so awesome?
2.
izhilzha and her uncanny knack for getting me addicted to things.
3. The Babby. I got to hold him for two whole episodes of BSG last night and blow a raspberry on his tummy before leaving.
4. Today's run. I've been running at night mostly since the beginning of summer, so I don't really notice the scenery that I run through. Today Mr. Bill went with me for an early-evening run while it was still light out and it was so beautiful. The sun was turning all the clouds pink, there were weird little red-and-orange citrus fruits on some of the dwarf trees on the landscaped hills, there were purple blossoms on the creeping fig that has covered on of the walls on my route, and a rose bush in someone's yard had the most beautiful rose, yellow at the heart, dark pink and red at the edges. I tell you it glowed, it was so lovely.
5. Zucchini bread.
6. Rain! *does happy wet weather dance*
7. I won another chess game on Sunday, this time against my brother,
not_a_monk. The match was a complete bloodbath, and involved both of us losing everything but our kings and a few pawns each. My victory is somewhat diminished by the fact that Jim is so rusty at chess that I kept having to remind him that pawns attack diagonally.
8. My new winter boots (purchased--very much on sale, thank you--because both pairs of last year's winter boots had been completely and utterly destroyed). They're both so snappy and shiny and pretty.
9. Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer (Nutmeg). Looks like lipgloss, feels like chapstick. *loves*
10. Mr. Bill, who has consented, with much sighing and rolling of eyes, to watch a few episodes of Numb3ers with me.
Me: Just try it, okay? I have a good record of knowing what you'll like. I was right about Lost and House.
Bill: I like Lost and House.
Me: Exactly, but you didn't want to watch either of them.
Bill: I didn't?
Me: No, you said House would be just like Grey's Anatomy and you thought Lost was stupid because you didn't know it was secretly a sci-fi show.
Bill: Oh yeah.
Me: See, so you have to try this because I think you'll like it. Please?
Bill: *noncommittal sounds*
Me: Please because you love me?
Bill: *sigh* Fine.
Me: Yay!
I tag EVERYONE! Because happiness is for yay!
