  1. I'll tell you what I love about Lupe Fiasco, besides EVERYTHING: ( I love the way he talks about women in his lyrics. )

Oh, hey, no, I totally get that! And I think that the kind of activism MSI does is pretty hard to access for a lot of people in fandom - I've definitely had this conversation before. The thing is that Little Jimmy Urine, the lead singer, is bisexual, and I think other people in the band possibly are as well? Lyn-Z used to be in a lesbian punk Dolly Parton cover band, although I'm not sure how she identifies. Jimmy kisses boys and girls in the audience on their live DVD. Anyway, they skirt the edges of being queercore, and Faggot is a song written from a first-person perspective; Jimmy is the faggot in question. It's just that their brand of activism is a lot more in-your-face and offensive than what most people are comfortable with - they want to make you uneasy, really badly. If you're uncomfortable with what they're saying, that's pretty much their goal.

Here's some press stuff that has Jimmy talking about his sexuality/making queer references:

Okay very cool. After actually listening to the music, it seems like that's what they're trying to do. They're in your face, they want you to notice.

I think it's a lot easier to take when you actually know something about the band so thank you!
