Here I am with my unfashionably late comment u__u Please prepare yourself for all the screaming I didn't get to do beta-ing this.
First of all, your Woohyun! You and your "attempts" at voices that read 29305703 times better than the rest of us who try ;__; One of the things I loved best about this fic was getting to see Sunggyu through Woohyun's eyes and vice versa, and the progression (ups and downs?) in their relationship. For the most part they manage to exist with a somewhat fraught cordiality concealing the mutual disdain simmering underneath. This is exactly how I imagine them to have been at the start. They just seem like two personalities that would clash so hard?? And then “You’re okay,” Sungkyu says. He doesn’t hug Woohyun. “You’ll be okay.” SO MUCH conveyed in this one line. I love how you portrayed them -- not cute, exactly, but definitely familiar? Two people placed in a situation that forced them to grow together, even if they never exactly clicked. Ugh, their dynamic is such an interesting/compelling one, and I think you captured that really well.
Ngl, I saved a bunch of lines to quote at you here and cry over but there were FAR too many for a comment of acceptable length u__u But in case you were wondering, this is the line that broke my heart: [+15,018, -92] Honestly, I always felt like Infinite became too cocky after they gained popularity, but because it was all low-key stuff and they have so many fans no one cared. They’re dead for sure now. I’m not sure how anyone can shield him. ;___; INFINITE. No but okay, jokes aside, it was probably this bit: Stupid fucking Woohyun with his martyr complex, and his narcissism, and his compulsive need to be loved, and his inability to believe people can love him without pretences. That's just... So Woohyun, and so heartbreaking. I'm so glad we got that bit from Sunggyu's point of view at the end, it really gave everything that additional perspective! (That sounds dumb, I know. The extra perspective gave it perspective. But you know what I mean.)
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: I really enjoyed the process of reading this and having to gradually uncover what happened to the group. The chronology in which everything was presented worked really nicely for that! I also wondered how you would pull off a resolution after all that buildup, and I wasn't disappointed at all. That final confrontation was !!! I was biting my fingernails and ;__;-ing the whole way through. ALSO, I love your title. So many things about this are A+. Would I be pushing it if I were to squeeze in another quote? I really loved this bit:
Woohyun hums absently, watching his hand rise and drop with Sungkyu’s breathing. “Remember when I used to be a better singer than you?”
Sungkyu barks out a laugh. “You’re delusional. That’s hilarious. Don’t worry Woohyun, just keep trying, and then you’ll be back at your best. Your best being comfortably below me.”
That banter! How easily and comfortably they tease each other! Also, Sunggyu's general derision/bluntness consistently came through. I think it should be said that I did very little for this fic, I'll claim maybe a 1% credit for fixing your typos u__u This was so great, I really think you should be proud of having accomplished it (especially given the word count), please continue to be awesome!!
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO RESPOND TO THIS COMMENT WHEN I'VE ALREADY WORD VOMITED EVERYTHING AT YOU???
lol like WHAT DO I SAY with the stuff about perspective and characterisation when i literally went through all of it with you before? honestly you're such an A+++ BETA u___u i'm so thankful that you read all of this despite not being too interested in woogyu/infinite anymore.
I AM SORRY this comment isn't longer especially because i've been trying to write it for the entire day now otl. BUT HONESTLY, thank you for yelling at me to keep going while i was writing this fic, and telling it like it us u___u you're the bestest <3
