I have been offline for a scarily long time, for no particular reason that I can think of. However, this time has not been passed unconstructively:
~ I have submitted my application to St Catharine's College at Cambridge (only a week after the deadline - go me!) although I have no great hopes for my chances, because a) wow, do they make those forms hard to fill in, and there is bound to be an elementary mistake somewhere, b) my Personal Statement reads like it was written by a six-year-old (last minute rush-job, I afraid), and c) in my photo I look deranged. For some reason, the booth was unusually dark, meaning that, although I managed to avoid my normal horrific like-a-rabbit-in-the-headlights photo face, my pupils were so huge that one was very noticably bigger than the other, giving me a psycho/drug addict look. I'm just hoping that my references give me a reasonable amount of brownie points.
~ I also managed to complete my UCAS (Universities' and Colleges' Admissions Service) application, which was also ridiculously complicated - honestly, you'd think they were trying to single out the clever ones or something - and have chosen, apart from Cambridge, to apply to York, Warwick, Bristol, Exeter, and Southampton. They only all ask for at least an ABB. So, no pressure.
~ I still haven't managed to decide which subject to drop, meaning that I now face doing four pieces of coursework over the next few months. *headdesk* Damn my indecisiveness.
~ American Politics is the greatest thing ever. It so marvellously... bizarre. It's one of those systems that could only ever work in America - whenever we start comparing it to the British system, I can do nothing but splutter. I love it. Mid-terms? Primaries? Separation of the Powers? John Change-My-Entire-Political-Stance-In-Order-To-Get-The-Popular-Vote McCain? *Kate's head explodes* I think it helps that, this week, we have done nothing except make posters and watch Bowling For Columbine, which, despite the fact that Michael Moore does rather annoy me, brings up some rather interesting points. (Such as: why would you want a gun? I only ever met one person with a gun in my life, and I'm not exactly sheltered. Why does America need them so much more than the rest of us?) I've also discovered that I rather loathe Charlton Heston. Slimy git.
~ Sam and I are being friendly, but scarily polite to each other. It is bizarre. Although I have to admit that every so often there is bit of an outburst on my side (such as last night - damn you, gin and tonics!), but they are easily repaired.
~ I have applied for Job #3, for over Christmas. I need the money, although I can't imagine where this leaves the aforementioned coursework. Probably the same place as my social life.
~ Diet. So... hungry.... need... something... other... than... vegetables...
~ Only two days late: Happy Birthday to Megan and Alex! *loves you both*
