There goes the kludges to an archaic, obsolete 18th century mechanism which allowed the system to creak along into the 21st century. We're not an agrarian society of self sufficient farmer-artisans producing our own food and goods on homesteads in a world of slow communications and mostly local economics, few large institutions, and separated by weeks or months sailing time from other countries and limited trade.
We kludged delegation of complex issues to specialists knowledgeable of the issues and able to react with reasonable speed since the 1870s when industry, railroads, telegraph all changed the scenario without having to completely rewrite the operating system.
Trying to operate a 21st century society with lightspeed audiovisual communication, high speed transport, a globalized economy and supply chains, ICBMs and jet planes is a fool's errand. Our kludges are already showing the limit to dealing with pandemics and supply shocks.
The wheels will come off right quick. All for Ideology and a worship of mere mortals constrained by their time and concerns.
It's like trying to rebuild a Star Trek communicator with stone knives and bear skins.
