How about some pie? / Maybe later.
Happy birthday, Dean Winchester. ♥ I didn't have time to be very celebratory, but I bought this insanely expensive pie specifically in your honor! And made the worst gratin ever made, ate beans instead.
Other celebratory things I did in Dean's honor today:
1) Watched the first 11 minutes of 12x06 "Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox," which is one of my top top top top top favorite ever, ever out of all the episodes, episodes of Supernatural. I didn't have time to watch the rest, but oh god every second of those first 11 minutes is the best thing ever.
I love the reluctance Mary broadcasts without saying anything, purely through knowing that she was off in Manitoba "tying up loose ends" and Dean was one year old, in Kansas. I love Asa asking her who's going to save people if she retires, and Mary not having an answer--the answer becoming Asa's own montage, the bad and the good, and then the end. The strong but not certain implication of Asa's death by suicide--the likelihood that that came of hunting too, and this being echoed in his mother's response to Jody's greeting at the wake. I love Jody and her willingness to take Sam and Dean at face value. I love the way Jody's voice breaks when she recounts going for coffee with Asa. I love Sam in this episode, so, so much--his very pleased teasing of Dean: "You should be proud of your hobbies. Makes you who you are," which would be wholesome if he didn't have the most shit-eating grin on his face and if he weren't talking about tentacle hentai. And I haven't even GOTTEN to the rest of the wake yet!!!! TBC.
2) I also re-read the letter I wrote to Dean in 2017, which I have read every year since and will continue to do until I'm brave enough to post it on this journal. It makes me feel like a complete freak of nature, though, even though it also feels genuine and true every time I read it. I cry at the same parts every time and I know this because part of the letter is narrating this out, LOL. ONE DAY, one day. I say this like everything I post here isn't completely unhinged about this show, but.
