So, in grad school, one of my sidegigs for extra money was participating in studies that various departments at the University were hosting--be it the business school, the school of information, psychology, the med school, the auto engineering program (my fave), etc.
Like five years ago, I participated in a 100-day online study that asked you various questions and included some memory/recall tests, where sets of two words would display on the screen for a second and then you'd be asked to recall the second word in each set.
For a lot of these, I'd try to remember them by attaching them to some kind of visual association. Like, for the combination "silk pop" I'd imagine a silkworm eating a Push-Pop.
A bit ago, I got asked to participate in a follow-up--the same 100-day online study again. I'd completely forgotten about the study, though its premise did come back to me, and some of the word association parts actually felt vaguely familiar.
A few nights ago, one of the word combos was "fancy steel" and I was like, oh my god, because not only did I later remember that combo after the ten minutes of study-answering had elapsed and the recall portion came up, but
I ALSO REMEMBERED THE VISUAL ASSOCIATION I'D USED FIVE YEARS AGO TO REMEMBER THE COMBO.
Because this gun was "fancy steel" lmao:
Once again, there really is a SPN gif for everything. (And of course I chose a gif from a thematically appropriate "memory" episode. Who wouldn't?)
