A Day in the Life of a Fangirl

Nov 12, 2011 11:58

I have lots of feelings about 7x08. About important things--like issues of consent, for instance. And Sam. And integrity. And everything. All of you have said these things and more, and better. So I wanted to at least address one thing, and talk instead about a day in the life of a real, live, actual, certifiable SPN fangirl. I encourage all ( Read more... )

salt being a spirit deterrent, wild kingdom never ends, trufax, fandom: spn, strange tales from the southern front, mistaking reality for spn again, pics or it didn't happen

YAY! This is such a wonderful idea! I was just easting dinner thinking that it would be really wonderful if we fangirls could collectively share the awesome things about our lives that have nothing to do with Show. (And then send them with an angry letter to the writers of 7.08... )

Unfortunately I had a very boring day today. But it was a boring day IN PARIS. That makes me interesting, right?

This was actually inspired by your post! I think what I'd like to perpetuate is not so much 'I have a life outside of fandom' so much as 'I have a life outside of fandom; I have a life inside fandom; both are laced with traces of the other, and they complement each other gloriously.' Because otherwise I feel like I'm presenting fandom as something I need to compensate for. (neverrrrrr! XP)

No day is a boring day! Mine happened to involve sharks (and no uni/work), but boiled down to it, that day was basically a 7 hour grocery trip, looolll. Though of course PARIS makes everything interesting! <3

Cool! And yeah, having a life INSIDE fandom goes without saying. I like the idea of showing how the other stuff compliments it. Like how our other interests and knowledge make each fans contribution to fandom unique!

But admittedly, I'm a bit jealous of how you get to share your fandom squee with people you see in RL like, every day. That definitely helps with the integrating of the two!

Ahaha I am quite grateful as well! I don't actually know any fandom people IRL (though I've had the pleasure of going to visit some!), but my roomie is aware of the culture and TOLERATES MY ECCENTRICITIES. For which I love her very much. XDD

Those parts of my day that I didn't spend replying to responses to my response to 7.08 (or sometimes, while I was responding to them) I spent:

Listening to my weekend NPR shows. One of these days, I will win Carl Kassel's voice on my home answering machine.

Reading 11th century Islamic philosophy. I've got a couple of parts of my thesis that need more quotes and it's been about two months since I looked at this section so I needed a refresher. Not really conducive to thoughts about Sam and Dean. Does it make me more or less of a geek for doing it in the original Arabic?

Watching the coverage of the Penn State-Nebraska game and was semi-disgusted by all of the pro-JoePa paraphernalia. I really feel that they should cancel the rest of their season - the football program is a sick organization that needs to be dismantled before the corruption can ever be rooted out.

Called my little brother. Apparently Kuwait is HOT.

Finished staining the shed.

Laughed my ass off at this video:
And now I'm contemplating writing an Arthur/ ( ... )

Doing it in the original Arabic makes you badass is what it makes you. I know absolutely nothing about football, unfortunately ( ... )

Sammy's good. He confirmed everything negative I'd ever heard about travel via C-130. And he lives in a hangar. I asked if that was temporary. He said, "Doesn't sound like." So yeah - no walls for a year! The group codes about masturbation etiquette in that kind of living situation must go on for pages. =D

My problem with Ira Glass is that he sometimes holds me hostage. If TAL is particularly good one day, I am stuck there, unable to do anything else but listen, for the entire program. And TAL is really good almost every week lately. Ira Glass takes away my willpower!

Mmmmm... industrial cooking. Tell me more - I did commercial cooking for a long time, industrial cooking must be that much more of a close-knit, suspicious kind of group. Although there's no way they can swear as much as commercial cooks do.
