Would Rose have really known this? Is existentialism a “thing” culturally?

I feel like it's one of those terms that people recognise as a thing, but can't really define. It gets mixed up with nihilism, maybe.

Thomas, for all he appears only fleetingly in this story, is the beginnings of my thoughts about Jacob the monk.

I always liked this one. I enjoyed the commentary! And I like that we seem to hear an echo of Thomas Vaughn Voight, a little whisper of his life and breath, as Rose reads the dedication.

I like this one too, but there's a lot I'd change about it if I were writing it now. But, that's not a bad thing, is it? I still like the concept and most of the story itself.
