Kate's 21st Birthday Part I was a roaring good time.
I felt so loved having dinner at La Cazuela with my best Smith friends (minus a few who took a rain check), so many great personalities coming together. it was fantastic. and so was my first legal drink- a tasty margarita. After La Cazuela we went to the Tunnel Bar and I had an impressive citrusy martini concotion. My bureau is decorated with many lovely cards, and I recieved some perfect gifts which were a comforting reminder of how well my friends know me.
Now I'm waiting with intense anticipation for Rood Twin's Birthday Part II in NYC this weekend. I've purchased the cake pans, so there's no stopping us now.
I haven't posted in a while because there is too much to process. Too many good friends. Too many big thoughts. Too much contentment mixed with anxiousness mixed with gratefulness mixed with good good times.
A random sampling of enjoyable things about Senior Year to date:
I had a great meeting with my advisor, Howard. He was geniunely interested in hearing about my year at OSU and seemed impressed that I'd taken a more unconventional approach to JYA. We talked a bit about the courses I'm taking now and about what I want to do post-Smith. He encouraged me to take the GRE's and liked the idea of a Public Communications program. Yay Howard. I also told him that I'm coming to see him soon so we can have a Montreal 101 session- he was beaming from ear to ear when I told him that I was interested in going to Montreal for fall break.
Jill and I are having lots of good gym time. I convinced her that the stair stepper is a marvelous machine, and she keeps me on track with abs and weight lifting. and she doesn't make too much fun of me when I turn bright bright red.
My tennis class is fantastic. I still miss Ranee and Mike and Gary from Timberhill, but Tennis III has exceeded my expectations. Plus there is Phil, the VERY skilled VERY cute asian guy from Hampshire. I stayed after class and played with him for about 30 minutes today and he kicked my butt. But he seemed to enjoy himself and I certainly could use a new tennis role model/crush to take the place of Hunter.
I am LOVING my work study job. It's sooo good to be back with Alan and the gals. I got to attend the all staff meeting of the 30 or so Advancement folks at Smith- during which Alan said very complimentary things about me. The projects I'm working on are fantastic and interesting (including reading the latest research proposals by some of my favorite faculty members...) and I'm getting paid!
The first years in the house are excellent. Their energy is infectious and it feels great to be in a house community again.
hmmmmm wish I could write for hours on all the little things that are going so well this year, but this has been a pretty standard "what-are-you-up-to" post already, so i'll be done.
I miss my mom a lot, but I know she's happy to know that I am really having the time of my life.
