You'll have to forgive me, this will probably also end up an unfinished work- I'm so tired, it's late, but I had an amazing day and I want to write about it- so bare with me.
Today I went to the German History museum with my history course and, if you know me, you'll know I love museums and I love history and I love Germany, so it was a lot of fun.
They had some really amazing things there, the books, the letters, the paintings- Oh good lord the paintings were amazing both as a historian and as an artist. The size and detail in some of them. Holy hell. And then there were little thing, like a pocket calendar from the 14th century that also make you think wow, these people weren't that different from us now. I always know they aren't but it amazes me each and every time.
And of course seeing things I know from books up close and in the flesh is amazing, to me at least. And seeing how well certain things have lasted (I honestly nearly yelled BULLSHIT YOU CAN'T TELL ME THIS IS REAL. a few times...
All in all an amazing day and an amazing place. The museum its self is pretty neat, the layout is a bit confusing, though.
But, you guys know me, I wouldn't just write to say I had a good time. No something AMAZING happened guys. It's gonna blow yer mind... Okay, probably not, but it did mine.
At one point I ended up coming up to the 1700s and the enlightenment (that what you guys call it?) and I saw a few things and thought "Mendelssohn should be here but he probably wo- OH MY GOD BUST OF MOSES OH MY GAWD." And then I saw a first edition of one of his books and a coin and all that crud and I was a happy son of a gun. Like giddy even. I was taking notes and as soon as I saw that I wrote, in large letters OMG MOSES EFFING MENDELSSOHN O. M. G., I need to take a picture of it. =P
Anyway, then I came to a piano and saw Leopold Mozart's "Versuch einer Grundli. Violinschule", which was even MORE awesome cause you might possibly remember if you squint a bit I kinda dig Leo. And then there was also a painting of the Mozart family so that was awesome and I thought about Mendelssohn and wouldn't it be groovy if he was there too. And then I heard music. And it was like
"Is that Mendelssohn??? ... No--- wait yes YES IT IS OH MY GOD WHERE IS IT COMING FROM?" and I ran around in a circle a bit. Eventually I started to think I had finally lost it because really, I couldn't see anywhere it could be coming from. I was pretty upset, or better bugged cause I was positive I could hear Mendelssohn but... Yeah, no idea where that was from.
I continued on my way and eventually came to another room, this time in the 19th century, also with a piano type thing in it. And it was indeed playing Mendelssohn. I looked the little card there, not paying attention to anything else, and read "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy- Songs without Words" (I read the English, dunno why)
I was all D'AWWWW and walked back a bit and looked up and saw this mother effer:
My day was, of course, made.
They also had the original copy to one of his Songs without Words and... DID I MENTION FELIX IS IN THE GOD DAMN MUSEUM OF GERMAN HISTORY?
NOT EVEN BEETHOVEN WAS IN THERE GUYS.
=P
I think I went into the room with the Felix portrait some 3049284 times, I really just... Could not help it.
Later, as I looked at things from the Nazi period it all seemed even more absurd to me how that could have happened. It's... Really weird to see those two things so close together. I'm too dead tired to make that make any more sense, but yeah. It's odd, to say the least.
(And yes, the nazis suck. I feel the need to add this, because mentioning them without saying that is weird.)
ANYWAY, so I had a great time at the museum.
Then I went, did some tourist shopping for a certain someone and went to look at some music. I was GOING to get this boxset of Robert Schumann's music, since today is his 200th OH MY GOD HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUDE ILU <3 <3 <3 but I ended up not and got a book about Felix instead... Uhhh.... Ehehehe? There's a bit about him in it? Ehehe?
ANYWAY, with the book I went home, ended up missing my station cause the book was so good, got lost a bit and then went home. Did a bit more junk and then finished my Ethics essay. Now I am dead tired and it's exactly midnight, so good night onto you all- give me your hand if we be friends and Kat shall restore amends. *bows*
=P
MIGHT FIX THIS TOMORROW. *ahem*
