Pretty sad

So, I've long been opposed to battery-operated toys that light up, make noise, and have all the fun. There are many theories that argue that such toys inhibit the child's imagination. The more work the toy does, the less information the child's brain has to provide.
Case in point:
I was babysitting a two-year-old friend yesterday, and he picked up Nerissa's toy train, was looking at it hard, and then looked at me and said, "Button!?!"
He was looking for the button to push to make it make noise. He's got a toy barn, car wash, and lots of other toys that all have buttons to push to make them work. I had to teach him how to make a train noise.
Really, how sad is that?
