AHHH! I want to give Avon a bubble bath, dry him off with talc, wrap him up in flannel and put him to bed with a teddy bear for a week.

At this point, I don't think he'd complain. *sniff*

Rubber ducky in the bath, teddy bear in bed. Duckies aren't cuddly and teddies get soggy.

I'm surprised Cally hugged Vila considering your comment about "fragrant" tunnels.

Avon is really cranky when he is in pain. Though if I were Cally I'd be resisting a STRONG urge to bash their two head's together.

PS you may want to take another look at this line :
Avon was concerned, though he didn’t share his concerns with Vila. Vila was normally nervous enough already.

Ooh, I'm enjoying this!

"You're just sore that Cally hugged me," remarked Vila.

None of them would use 'sore' to mean 'annoyed'. Its only meaning in UK English is 'painful'. Avon does have a sore knee though.

That one seems to be a common mistake for Americans and Canadians!

Well it is the future. I've picked up terms from Brits and have seen them do the same with picking up American expressions, thanks to chat rooms.
In regards to using the word "sore" to denote being angry, I haven't noticed it used in this little corner of the U.S. Perhaps it's a regional thing.
So, my silly mind thinks: In the future, the early founders of the Federation got tired of differences in lingo from city to city. They adopted BBC English. LOL =)
