Their words had been harsh, hurtful, and cut right through Hermione’s heart. Harry and Ron had reacted badly to the news that Hermione was dating their arch nemesis. They couldn’t understand that Hermione needed Draco, even loved him, and cherished every moment she spent with him.
If Harry and Ron thought that threatening to cut her off would make Hermione break up with Draco, they were thoroughly mistaken. Their petty insults only served to strengthen her resolve, only increased her stubbornness and made her hold on even tighter.
In Draco’s arms Hermione forgot the pain her former friends had caused.

Draco had always expected that when his friends found out about his relationship to the brains of the Golden Trio the fallout would be anything but pretty. He hadn’t cared. He had also expected that Hermione’s friends would react equally as bad. He cared even less.
However, he had not anticipated that seeing Hermione cry would hurt him as well, that her pain would become his, and that the need to fix her broken heart would overwhelm him. He cared.
His father had taught him that caring for others was a weakness, but Lucius had been wrong about many things.
