So. Got Bridge to Terabithia from Netflix and watched it today. Had not read the book. Was not at all prepared for the ending.

*sniffle*

That is all.

Me too! Saw it two weeks ago. The trailer made it look like a kid fantasy fic, and then WHOA, the ending! I cried for, like, ten minutes. Sniffled all the way to the end.

Yeah, that's not so much a kid's movie. At least not for really little ones. Helluva punch, though, and definitely worth watching.

I agree. (and lol, just realized that I'd called it a fic instead of a film. Thank you, brain.)

Dude. Totally.

She's an awesome actress, too; I saw her in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, where she was such a little snot, and then she's this amazing kid in Terabithia. And things were finally going so well, you know? Also, I have two small blond daughters, which does not help.

In conclusion, *sniff*

I had to read that book for one of my English classes. Dear God but it was depressing.

More depressing than the movie? Because overall it was quite good, just sniffly at the end.

I haven't seen the movie, so I can't really compare them, but the book was quite a downer through a lot of it.

*hugs*

When it came out in Italy, they sold it as a fantasy adventure and I had no clue. At the end I kept crying.

*hugs more and passes hot chocolate*

Yeah, I even read a review before I picked it, but it was one of those sneaky professional reviews which does not give away the plot. It was certainly good, but wow, unexpected gutpunch much?

Damn sneaky professional reviews ;)

The gutpunch was terrible and I don't know how families with kids, who seemed to be the intended audience from the trailers, dealt with how it hit the kids.

Bah...

I actually like how this is a children's book. I think it has a great message and yes, it's sad and it hurts, but I'd much rather have kids see this than yet another violent cartoon.

Oh yes, the movie itself is really quite good, and I imagine the book is as well. It was more the sudden hard punch at the end that caught me off guard.
