So I've noticed the uproar in LJ land over the past week or so (since it would be very hard to miss it) but I didn't take any of the precautions like getting a greatestjournal or backing up my stuff. Part of that is my willful optimism, which often borders on plain old denial, but mostly it was because I don't have any of the targeted interests on my profile.
I have written fic that involves some of the child abuse themes, though, so I suppose I should have been more worried than I was. Really, I was more concerned for fandom as a whole than my own journal--being a fan without company would just suck.
Anyway, it seems to be dying down now, and LJ is backpedaling rapidly. This whole thing, and the Fanlib thing, has given me the feeling of being part of a large and vocal community. Fandom is awesome, you guys! And apparently, underestimated.
Oh, and go join
fandom_counts, if you haven't already. We're up over 25,000 there, and considering that's just on LJ and doesn't include all the people on mailing lists and ff.net, it's pretty good. Especially since the comm is what, three days old?
