In Memory...
Today I said goodbye to a woman who was like a second mother to me.
I was at school, in class, when my phone rang. I thought it was unusual that my mother call me twice at the early hour of 11 am, and when I checked my voicemail, I wasn't shocked to hear that my Aunt Annette was in the hospital.
My aunt was always one of those people that was strong in spirit and always fighting physical ailments. She struggled with Crones disease and other problems, and always seemed to be in and out of the hospital. However, she always had an optimistic spirit and a way of making me feel comfortable in uncomfortable situations. In some ways, she gave me more direction than anyone else.
When I was born, my aunt was my babysitter. From babysitting a girl who became one of my closest childhood friends and me, she built a daycare business that lasted two decades. She was always playing and laughing with children, and always managed to keep a smile on her face through our childhood antics. She was a mother to the motherless; a friend to the friendless; and overall, a loving and devoted mother, wife, aunt, sister, daughter, and caregiver. She gave me my first job at her daycare; and she was the one who told me I would be a great teacher. Overall, every day I spent with her I was amazed at her ability to laugh at life regardless of the hand life had dealt her.
When I got to the hospital, I didn't know what to say. I'm not very good at saying goodbye... The memories I have of her will forever remain forever ingrained in my mind as a woman strong and vibrant, living her life as life was made to live. I will continue to live my life in her memory... strong and vibrant, loving, caring.
But now that she has passed, much of the art in me feels like it has left, and I feel rather empty. I will miss her...
In Memory of Annette Sell, who left us far too early, 9/20/2005.
For those of you who are in Michigan, and would like to support me and my family, there will be an open viewing at Keehn's Funeral Home in Brighton on Friday from 7-9. Keehn's is on Main St at Third Street. If you don't know how to get there, you should have some idea on how to contact me...
Afterwards I was planning on hitting up the Irish Pub down the street for a drink and then going out to City Club... I will see you all again soon.
I am not nearly as pretty as my profile pic right now.
