First music post, I'll probably try uploading some songs if anyone is interested :
Anything by the Deftones, and I mean anything. I love the undercurrent of need, pain, release and lust that seems to be so much a part of their music. I think a big part of it has to do with the lead singer's voice, he makes everything sound like sex:) I remember the first time I heard Knife Party and I was just wowed. You don't have many bands out there that handle dark themes with a sexual undertone very well, and seeing as that it's one of my kinks, I was hooked.
Rob Dougan'Furious Angels': Not only is the man hot, I mean wow, but he has a wonderful voice. He reminds me of Seal, Sting, Bruce Springstein and Bowie all at once, which is really amazing. And the music itself is very beautiful. If any of you watch CSI on a regular basis, you'll know that they play awesome music and they often play Dougan's music.
A Perfect Circle 'Thirteeth Circle'- This CD just floored me. I love songs where you can never tell if it will end up being a slow song or a fast and furious one, and this CD delivers on this over, and over again. The entire CD is about addiction, need, pain and delusion; it really tells a story. When you listen to it, just think about someone who is addicted; drugs, alcohol, whatever poison you can think of and this CD is it. It's very compelling and has very interesting music.
30 Seconds to Mars ' A Beautiful Lie'- I loved the first album of theirs so much I wasn't sure that the second one could top it. The second CD is very different from the first, at first it was jarring for me but as I listened to it more often I was struck by how well thought out the CD was. Every song goes together so well, it's like listening to a story and its very beautiful CD. Jared Leto really shines on this album and I can see why it took the band so long to finish,it was well worth it.
Alice in Chains 'Dirt'- Another CD with rather dark themes; lost, addiction, war, love, rejection and fear. I'm unable to listen to happy songs apparently. Anyhow, this is their best CD ever and I think the follwing songs 'Would?' and 'Down in a Hole' will be all time favorites of mine.
'Stargate Atlantis OST'- I was surprised how beautiful this one was, it you can't put what Atlantis is into words just listen to this soundtrack. It's hopeful, playful, awe-inspiring and serious all at the same time. The Athosian theme is a favorite of mine; quiet, exotic, beautiful and strong, like Teyla.
Both BSG scores are absolutely amazing. I didn't think they could manage a second one, as I've noticed very few scores have songs that are actually very different from each other while still having any kind of flow or rhythm but these soundtracks more than succeed with that.
Team Sleep- incredible lyrics that make you think while of course have the staple sexiness that comes with anything Deftones related. Very cool album.
The Crow-City of Angels Score-- the movie was awful but this is the best gothic soundtrack I have ever heard. It's very enthralling and reminds you of Angels, but like the one's with swords in 'The Prophecy'.
Some of my thoughts on V for Vendetta behind the cut, they are very vague:
I loved it, and yes I haven't read the graphic novel in a while but I don't think that will change how I see this movie. It's the best adaption of any of Alan Moore's work and this is probably one of the hardest of his works to bring to the big screen without fudging it and the Walchowski brothers delivered. There was problems with the film of course, it had the Hollywood taint to it which means yeah, they didn't get all the Britishisms right (hey is that a word?) and I thought the love thing at the end was a bit weird. Some people thought the movie was about bashing Bush but since it was set in Britain people were offended bcse if you want to diss Bush, diss him outright. I think this film made people uncomfortable bcse they could see parallels between the movie and what is happening now. I know they had to modernize the movie somewhat to make it slightly more relevant to our times but I didn't see it as an attack against Bush. It was about bringing down a fascist governement that was terrorizing its people. The way they depicted the goverment does have similiarities to the American government or any western or european government for that matter, some more than others. They lie , they use to fear to get unlimited power, take away our rights in the name of protecting security and make shady deals with other countries and trample extra hard on the rights of people who aren't heterosexual, white males. I realize the last part doesn't apply to non-western or european countries but the rest does. I live in Canada and as much as I love this country, we have done things that are deeply shameful to our own',the Natives, who we continue to abuse, the Japanese and the Ukrainians to name a few. Oh, and we elected Steven Harper *headsdesk*.
What I saw in V for Vendetta could happen to any country in power where the citizens don't ask too many questions and let fear override their common sense into allowing a few people the right to unlimited power over their lives. Also, about making the Brits look bad, well they rose up in the end and made a stand. To me that is a huge compliment because not every country has enough citizens willing to do that and the response in this movie was overwhelming.
So, whether you see political motivations in the storytelling or not, the story itself was very good, no plot holes that you can drive a truck through, it is a fairly faithful adaption of the graphic novel, violence and mature themes aren't used to titillate the audience as they serve a purpose, the movie itself was beautiful with well done action scenes and the acting was awesome. So yeah, go see it:)
