contemporary usage, as articulated by president Bush's New Federalism, federalists advocate the principle of greater regional autonomy within the United States usually by allowing individual states to set their own agendas and determine the handling of issues, rather than trying to impose a nationally uniform solution.

Uhh, Bush lies, McCain lies. The above definition of Federalism is nowhere close to the actions of the Bush administration and its call for national ID cards, homeland security, wiretapping.

The above definition advocates states rights. The only states Bush supports is right to make laws more oppressive than the federal laws. The moment a state tries to make a law more lenient than the federal equivalent the Fed puts sanctions on the state. The only reason California gets away with making laws contrary to the fed ( eg .. Medical Marijuana ) is California's economy is 1/4 of the entire US economy. Sanctions against CA would hurt the US economy more than they would hurt CA.

They are waiving a false flag.

McCain, Pailin, Bush, Cheny, Rove are not Federalists in any definition of the word, even their own.
