Over and out

Life Okay, so here's the deal: The Home Depot fired me last night. Their reasons are ambiguous and dubious, at best, but it's enough for them to decide that they're better off without me. The real reason, although they'd never admit it (for fear of being sued), is that I am going away to join the Army. Since I announced my intention to enlist on January 5th, I somehow managed to accrue 5 write-ups for various thinly-veiled offenses, all of them minor. I hadn't gotten a single write-up in the six months before that. Ergo: they were gunning for me the minute I made it clear that I was leaving.
This throws damn near all of my plans completely off. No vacation time to finalize my prep for Basic. No insurance to cover my family (and my daughter, who is about to have a baby). No money saved up to offset the time it'll take for the Army to start putting money in my account.
At this point I see no other option but to ship out for Basic very soon. We're talking, like, next week. I do, after all, have to ensure that my family is taken care of, especially Kathrine. On the first day I start Basic training my family will be covered under the Army's insurance. I'll miss Kathrine's delivery, I won't be there to make sure that she doesn't succumb to post-partum depression and I won't be able to take the time I want to say goodbye to my family and wrap up loose ends here before I go.
My wife, Tori, will hopefully post regular updates on what's going on with me while I'm away. I will be calling her as frequently as possible to make sure that she is well informed. If you have any questions or want contact information (PLEASE SEND ME LETTERS WHILE I'M AWAY!!!!), you will be able to get them here. Alternatively, you can contact her directly at the following email address:
tori.seals@gmail.com
I love you all and hope that all is going well in your lives. As I said above, please send me letters. Contact with the outside world while I'm away at Basic will be minimal. The more people who send me positive letters, even short ones, the easier it'll be for me to focus and maintain a positive attitude.
Peace be with you, Allah'u'abha and take care of yourselves!
