*hugs* My cousin is in the Army. He just got back from Iraq. Whether or not they get deployed, it's still scary and lonely for those of us who have to stay home. Does he have a laptop? That would make it easier for him to keep in touch with you guys after Basic.
I'm proud of him too. That's a big step to make, but it will make him much more eligible for better jobs, he'll have great benefits while he's in there (I've dealt with TriCare before, and they take good care of their people), and like you said, he's doing it for you guys, which is an amazingly selfless act. My stepdad spends 85% of the year away from his wife and kids (he works for OSHA) so he can provide for us, and we thank him for it every day. If you do it with love, it's pretty well always a good choice.
