Hey, Merlin! Look at this motherf**king griffin!

Wow, people. I know that NBC has been on a serious anglophilic kick in its programming over the last three years, and that Merlin is the first British series to air (in prime time!) on mainstream American network television in a couple of decades, and I hope that you all don't pillory me for saying this (because I've got Merlin fans on ye esteemed ( Read more... )

I'm confused. I thought you didn't like anime. Am I mis-remembering?

Most anime leaves me cold. GitS does not - I run through the movies and the TV episodes at least once a year.

I also love Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, but who doesn't?

To be honest, I'm warming up to more anime - I'm slowly watching more things that people recommend.

May I recommend Kino's Journey?

So, based on the Wiki article, it's basically the anime version of Heat Vision and Jack? Except with a YT as the protagonist?

I guess they're both in the talking motorcycle genre, but Kino's a little more cerebral. And it's gorgeous.

It looks interesting - I'll see if Netflix has it. Are there decent fansubs anywhere?

Netflix has it and I have no dots in fansubs, so I'm not sure.

The only problem with Netflix is that they sometimes screw you with foreign films and give you the English dub versions rather than subtitles. Hopefully that's not the case here! (Case in point: I do NOT want to watch GitS in English dub - I want to hear the original Japanese voice cast.)

I'm sure it's just like the set I own which is subtitled. However, this is exactly why I'm not a fan of their instant view -- it's all dubbed.

nique's already turned me on to that - and I cannot find DVDs ANYWHERE or decent fansubs. I'd rent it in a New York second if I could find it! Is it uploaded online anywhere? Because from what small clips I've seen, it's stunningly beautiful.

Pretty much any of the Miyazaki films are worth a look. Spirited Away is actually my favorite, with the most recent: Howl's Moving Castle a close second.

If you can't find any of them in a timely fashion, send me a msg, and I'll pass you a demonoid or boxtorrents link.

I love Miyazaki! I'm not that clueless, hon. I haven't yet seen Howl's Moving Castle, although it's on my list since I like the source material.

Thanks for the offer - and I will be PMing you. :-)

It's different from the book, definitely. But it's a respectful, and very interesting retelling.
