Yes, the entire premise of that scene was absurd, although I'm willing to fanwank it that maybe Pine!Kirk smells really wrong to the alien beasties, and that's why Big Red turned and chased him. Or I can meta it and say that Big Red was so appalled by Pine's portrayal of Kirk that he decided to try to eat him on principle.

I'm willing to go for Karl Urban and Simon Pegg and Zoe, although I'm a little discouraged that thus far I haven't really seen anything in the clips with Zoe that make me go "THAT's a Uhura."

PS - I keep meaning to comment on your LOTR fic. I'm a HUGE Tolkien nerd. Have we talked about this yet? Tolkien fandom (along with comics fandom) was the first fandom that I really got involved with online. I grew up reading Tokien, I have all the HOMEs lined up on a shelves, I can recite almost the entire line of Númenórean succession, etc., etc., ad infinitum.
