Otherwise, the_croupier has the single best summation and response to Amazon's cry of "it was all an ACCIDENT, you see!" (Flocked post, but we share a few people on the flist, so some of you may get to see it.)
I don't really care if Amazon swears up and down that all of this was unintentional; even if it was really just an unfortunate convergence of bad code, poor communication, and a poorly-designed reporting system, the lack of vigorous oversight and QA that this illustrates is scary. At best, it's incompetence. At worst, Amazon's lying through their teeth.
Amazon refused to talk to National Public Radio today. Oh, yeah, that makes you look credible and honest.
Edit: The New York Times is trying to be fair-minded, but it even looks bad from *their* angle.
