Okay, so this is the promised pimping/picspam GK post I've mentioned :D GK is honestly one of my favourite pieces of TV, and I recommend it to everyone even if you're like me and don't really care for war-related things. And on the shallow side-it has pretty boys and lots of semi-nudity.
Under the cut is more info/babbling about the show and a seriously not-dial-up-friendly picspam of pretty. Plus a view gifts ^_^
So. Generation Kill. For those who don't know, GK follows a group of First Recon Marines in the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003. Recon Marines are the equivalant of Navy SEALs and British SAS-they are hardcore motherfuckers, who are unfortunately dumped in tin-plated Humvees to drive into ambushes intstead of doing what they were trained to do. GK is based on the true account of Evan Wright, a reporter who embedded with them, and so it's very realistic. That means it's not always a nice show-it's very gritty and raw, it shows the mistakes that happens, the innocent people who get killed. It shows that Iraq really was kind of a clutserfuck and through it all, these guys are forced to follow orders they don't agree with and try not to get killed.
The acting is superb by all of the cast-the main characters are Sgt. Brad Colber (Alexander Skarsgard), Lt. Nate Fick (Stark Sands) and Cpl. Ray Person (James Ransone), but the 'supporting' cast is just as brilliant. They all show the toll everything takes on them-Brad especially changes a lot from the first to the last episode, with bags appearing under his eyes and his entire appearence becoming more gritty/dirty. Ray is quite possibly the best character of the lot-he's the joker of the group that keeps everyone laughing when they should be crying, but he does show another side of him to the end. And Nate... Nate is like this big puppy sometimes-he's the one that as to deal with bullshit commands and idiot commanders and try to get his guys out alive. He's very much an idealist and you see him struggling to understand what they're doing. You see him realise that they're not heroes, that they're not always the good guys. It's heartbreaking to watch and you really do feel for him.
Truthfully, I could go on for pages about this show, there's so many different sides to it and a thousand little nuances that you pick up after a while. I honestly think that if you haven't seen it, you're missing out. Don't be put off by the military jargon-even if it's not obvious, you'll pick up the general meaning and if you join the fandom, you'll soon learn the speak.
Speaking of the fandom, it's amazing. It's small but incredibly talented-the fic writers are insanely skilled, picking up on the horrors or war in one fic and then writing the most brilliant crack in another. Everyone's really nice and supportive-I've gotten some wonderful comments on the two fics I've posted, and they were both rarepairs and not one of the OTPs. The main OTP is Nate/Brad-if you watch even a second of the show, you'll understand why. They took eyefucking to an artform, had entire silent conversations, joked about kissing each over (gun)lube, and were just the definition of shippy. Seriously, the Winchester brothers have nothing on these two :D
Anyway, before I ramble on forever, here's the picspam ^_^

This is Rudy Reyes who was actually one of the Marines-he was brought on as an advisor and then they let him act his own part-he's all kinds of awesome and rarely wears a shirt (Photobucket TOS'd a pic I had in here of him standing fully naked in the first episode :P)

This is an awesome scene of the Marines doing what they were actually trained to do-they scale one building, jump across to another, rapel down to a third and then sneak around a bit :P
Doc Bryan is awesome-he frequently complains about/shouts at superior officers, but give him a civillian in need and he's like this.
