So today was the showcase and glamour shots of the Teslabots. This entry shows some raw photos, and then cropped to different aspect ratios. One thing I never realised as an end user of photography is just how much easier it to take a big photo of a scene, and then crop it down to get an awesome, tight, shot rather than try to place the camera exactly there and take a photo of the end result. The post where I was zooming in on the hydra head was testing how much I could crop away and still get good detail. The resolution on these iPhone cameras is amazing.
I'm concluding from these experiments that square aspect ratio is best for catalogue-esque showing off of paint jobs, widescreen (16:9) best for storytelling. Light placement really is an art form that's going to take a bit of learning.
