Panopticon or a Better Title

May 31, 2008 14:40

A streetlight buzzes across my field of visions
Reverberating through my brittle skull
with the tenacity of an Americanized mosquito
Carrying West Coast denial.

The CCTV camera watches me
Pretending it's not there, and I pretend too
I feed it a reality it photosynthetically digests
Into long angle fish-eye lens
Dumping out images into a womb of curved squares,
Its rear and a hundred others
Inspected by a rotating on-call staff
of coffee-fueled proctologists
Constantly, constantly sipping and murmuring
"Hmmmm."

I live panoptically
Periodically
Consciously aware.
So many cruel black lenses
Eyeballing behind mirrors and inkballs and whirring 711 statics

So life is lived like a gas leak
A hissing jet of artificially odored awareness
Slowly invisibly surrounding us
Punishment and punishment
