I'm 11 episodes into Angel. I'm surprised that I had seen about half of these when they originally aired. I loved Doyle then and I still love him now. So sad that they killed him off. Even sadder is Glenn Quinn's real life death from a drug overdose which was six years ago. I can't believe it has been that long. There's been a cloud over my mood watching these. Upset is the word I'm choosing to use. I'm upset Doyle is dead, Quinn is dead and that he screwed up his promising life with drugs. But the bigger question to me is why do I care so much? For example, the death of Heath Ledger whom I really enjoyed as an actor makes me sad but I'm not upset about it. Anyway, that hasn't gotten in the way of my loving the show. It just makes me long for what could have been.
101. City Of
Josh Holloway!!! Angel's awkwardness with people. Hee. Tracy Middendorf (Elsa Caplan from Alias). Cordy discovering a vampire.
102. Lonely Hearts*
Kate! Cordy's "angel" design. lol
(Doyle, picks up a lacy brassiere and holds it to his chest)
Cordelia: That is so high school. "Cordelia wears bras! Oh, she has girlie parts!"
Angel: Thanks Cordelia. I always appreciate your perspective.
Cordelia: No problem. Hey. The last thing I want is to show up at the office and find that I'm working for a homicidal monster.
103. In the Dark*
Spike: (as Rachel) How can I thank you, you mysterious black-clad hunk of a night thing?
(as Angel) No need, little lady, your tears of gratitude are enough for me. You see, I was once a badass vampire, but love and a pesky curse defanged me. Now I'm just a big, fluffy puppy with bad teeth. No, not the hair! Never the hair!
(as Rachel) But there must be some way I can show my appreciation?
(as Angel) No, helping those in need is my job, and working up a load of sexual tension and prancing away like a magnificent poof is truly thanks enough.
(as Rachel) I understand. I have a nephew who is gay, so...
(as Angel) Say no more. Evil is still afoot. And I'm almost out of that nancy-boy hair-gel I like so much. Quickly, to the Angel-mobile, away!
OMG. Best Spike Monologue Ever! Hilariously impersonating Angel and rescuee. LOL I used to have it as an MP3 before my computer crashed a few years ago. It reminds me a lot of Seth Green impersonating Handsome Rob in The Italian Job (also my favorite scene in that movie) who ironically is in this episode.
Rachel: Oh God… You’re not from that freaky church on Sunset, are you?
ROFL! This refers to the Church of Scientology. All their buildings are pretty hard to miss.
104. I Fall to Pieces
(talking about Angel)
Doyle: He likes playing the hero. Walking off into the dark, his long coat flowing behind him in that mysterious and attractive way.
Cordelia: Is this a private moment? 'Cuz I could leave you alone.
Doyle: I'm not saying I'm attracted...
(later, as Angel leaves the building, walking off into the dark, his long coat flowing behind him)
Maybe I'm a little attracted.
105. Rm w/a Vu*
Great episode and sadly I completely relate to the cockroaches which I have been currently battling for the last few months. Darn former drug dealers who used to live in the building behind us and then their bad landlords for leaving it empty and untaken care of for six months making it a breeding ground. [shivers] Fortunately, we do have exterminators come often but it takes time to get them all. Plus the corner of our front door has been whittled away so the big 2-inchers can literally walk right in the front door. Yuck! I killed one this week and another on got away from me under a chair. I'll have to keep vigilante tonight.
Love Cordy crashing/completely-high-jacking Angel's place! And Doyle thinking Angel/Cordy hooked-up. LOL
Cordelia: Roaches! Live ones, dead ones...all, all skinny feet and creepy antlers.
Angel: Antlers?
Oh dear god. Are they ever expressive with those antlers.
Doyle: Angel Investigations, we hope you're helpless. No, wait...
106. Sense & Sensitivity
Doyle: Cordelia thinks you're insensitive... which is ironic, considering the source.
Cordelia: It's time for you to get all vampy! Grr! Kate needs you!
Angel: (with a sad look) I don't want to. You both withdraw when I go vamp. I feel you judge me.
107. Bachelor Party*
Alot of fun to be had with seemingly ordinary pacifist demons holding onto their barbaric traditions. And Doyle use to be a Third Grade teacher. Aw. Wow. Interesting days before drinking and "loose women".
Cordelia: Well, someone has to go out there and cheer him up. (Angel stands up) Oh please. Someone with a heartbeat.
Doyle: Are you okay?
Cordelia: I'm fine. That was...you were so...brave!
Doyle: You think you could say that again without so much shock in your voice? You're stepping on my moment of manliness here.
Cordelia: I'm sorry. I'm... just...
Doyle: Surprised?
Cordelia: Grateful.
Aunt: Come on girls. It's pornographic Pictionary time!
Harry: Their ways are not... our ways.
108. I Will Remember You
It's so weird for Buffy to be a secondary character. I really couldn't get a feel for what she was really thinking/feeling. Their "perfect day" was like fanfic; it never seemed real to me. Oh, yay for the introduction to The Oracles though! And it was interesting to see Angel human. Hmm. I think I need to see this episode a few more times to really appreciate it.
Buffy: You know, it's a good thing I didn't fantasize about you turning human about ten zillion times...because today would have been a real let-down.
Cordelia: Oh, they'll be into this for a while. We still have time for a cappuccino and probably the director's cut of Titanic.
Female Oracle: (about Angel) This one is willing to sacrifice every drop of human happiness and love he's ever known for another. He is not a lower being.
109. Hero*
More of Doyle's back story crammed in, and Cordy finally warming up to him, only to die. So cliche, but I love Doyle and so I cried.
Doyle: (to Angel)There's a girl upstairs who's not quite sad enough to cry in me arms, but keep up the dark cloud. I might get lucky.
Doyle: If you need help, then look no further. "Angel Investigations" is the best. Our rats are low.
Cordelia: Rates!
Doyle: It says rats. Sorry. Our rates are low, but our standards are high. When the chips are down and you're at the end of your rope, you need someone that you can count on. And that's what you'll find here. Someone who'll go all the way, who'll protect you no matter what. So don't lose hope. Come on over to our offices, and you'll see that there's still heroes in this world. (pause) Is that it, am I done?
Seriously, trying not to cry here.
110. Parting Gifts*
Cordy kissing everyone! Wesley in "bad-ass", chaffing leather. Hehe.
Wesley: (after Cordelia kisses him) I thought it went considerably better than last time.
Wesley: I'm a Rogue Demon Hunter.
Cordelia: Wow. What's a rogue demon?
111. Somnambulist
Love that they start pronouncing Angelus, "an jealous". Being a late-comer to both series, it was weird hearing it the other way.
Cordelia: (to Wesley) I don't care how many files you have on all the horrible things that he did back in the Powdered Wig Days. He is good now. And he is my friend. And nothing you or anyone else can say will make me turn on a friend.
Angel: Cordelia, he's right.
Cordelia: You stake him, and I'll cut his head off.
*seen previously
I love Cordy speaking her mind. Hilarious. It's still weird to see Angel funny though but good to see him growing beyond what he was on Buffy. I know I will like Wesley better later (there is one episode I remember seeing in particular) but right now he's too dork. While there are loads of great "moments" and characters and one-liners, the overall episodes haven't really found a rhythm yet. Reminds me of first season Buffy.
