Game of Thrones 1x10
Last week, Ned's death wasn't really a surprise. I wasn't spoiled outright but there was a ton of talking around it over at
game_thrones. Also, I had heard Sean Bean is going to be in an primetime American tv show starting in the fall and he wouldn't have time for that if he was still doing GOT. I was really really mad at Ned for not telling anyone besides Littlefinger about discovering the Lannister's secret. Seriously, he couldn't send Cat a raven? Or after he realized he was betrayed and was going to die he couldn't start yelling that Joffrey was a bastard? The latter I understand he was probably exhausted and in too much shock.
Anyway, this week love the reactions of all the Starks. Arya and Sansa trying to save their father but being held back. Proud grief stricken Cat. Tree thrashing kill 'em all Robb. Jon deserting his knight's watch vows to be with his family. Rickon and Bran's twin dreams were great. I love errie connections. Rickon's a bit creepy though. He's got that whole Dakota Fanning little kid who's seems smarter and more adult than most of the adults thing going on.
Also, I need to squee for a moment over Natalia Tena (TONKS!) as the wildling Osha. She makes what could be really boring scenes interesting.
When Jon's friends came after him and simultaneously started reciting their vows agains... [beaming] LOVE THEM! Jon Snow you've got people who love you no matter what; don't give that up. Plus as long at Catelyn still alive its best for him to be away from his family. I'm really excited that James Cosmo's Commander is leading men north of the wall. Yay adventure! Loved him since Braveheart.
Robb Stark, KING OF THE NORTH!!!! I was hoping this would happen.
Love Sansa telling Joffrey Robb might put Joff's head on a pike and almost pushing the little King off the edge! But I also loved Sandor gently stopping her. I've been noticing the Sansa/Hound scenes all season but now I'm officially shipping them. It's so inappropriate mostly cause of the age difference. This is my first official ship of the show.
OMG. LOVE! Arya and Gendry were seriously the last characters I was expecting would meet but I have been thinking where is Robert's bastard blacksmith? And then he defends her. [sigh] They are totally gonna be bff. I hope Gendry doesn't go to the wall but to Winterfell instead to help make swords for The King of the North's army. Then they'll fall in love but its forbidden cause Robb betrothed Arya to a boy from the Frey family. DAMN IT! They're already EPIC!
(Seriously, I've been noticing the fandom claims that pretty much all the ships are inappropirate or forbidden. So far I'm seeing that pattern.)
Tyrion keeping his sister and nephew in line. Do not envy. Tywin's ridiculously smart to stay away. He doesn't want his head on a pike. And that 3 million the crown is in debt to him is still very useful.
I'm starting to like Jamie. I can't put my finger on it.
DANY AND DRAGONS!!!! [happy dance] I wasn't really sad to see the Khal go. I hurt for Dany cause she loved him but I think its better for her to be a leader on her own terms (no more raping, pillaging and slaves!). She showed her compassion by setting her slaves free. And she showed her justice by burning the witch who betrayed her. First with the scalding hot water she bathed in, next with the fire she wasn't burned by but her servant was when she picked up the egg and with her comment that fire can't hurt a dragon after her brother had been killed did make me think she must be impervious to fire. I adore Jorah's loyalty to her. Despite his mistakes, he is a man of honor. "Is that was you fear?" and the reassuring kiss. Almost enough to make me ship them, almost. Love the dragons reveal. I felt the epicness of the moment.
I truly enjoyed the first season. I didn't know where it was going to go but I'm liking the direction. I seriously want to marry Jon Snow or Robb, can't decide. Adore swashbuckling Arya. Tyrion's got some of the best lines. On the kill list: Joffrey, Cersei, Lysa Arryn and her son. May the whitewalkers take them!
I just started reading the books last week. I'm truly shocked how much is literally taken from the book and put straight onto the screen. Already there are some scenes from the screen I miss on the page and some scenes on the page I wish were on the screen.
