My day started badly. Just wasn't in the mood for the day. Forgot my keys at home. However, there's was this brightest part to my day where I felt completly appreciated, and it was for the most simplest thing .. and I'd like to tell it, because there are always people that need to take it to heart.
Let's just start with a basic statement. I believe in chivalry. I believe in gallantry. I believe that being polite, cordial and gallant to a woman does not remove her strength, her power, her intelligence. I believe it does not make her weak, or helpless.
I take the bus every day, and I always make sure to be the last one in, my rule goes, women, elderly and children in first, then first male to arrive and so on. Today, I was waiting for a bus and it arrived. There was me and two other men, and about half a dozen women. The actually stops right in front of where I'm standing, and before the doors are open I've already backed up, letting the group in. The two men rush in and go in first, and then the women. This makes me a bit angry, but I've seen this happen day in day out and know there's not much I can do about it. So the women go in. The last woman, before she goes in, turns around, smiles at me, and says "thank you." Just a simple, wonderful thank you. And whatever coldness was in me in the morning, just faded away. I felt appreciated. Someone noticed that I wasn't just being weird, that I was being polite and gallant ... well, skip the gallant, there are men that exude more gallantness then me, but keep the polite, I believe I'm a polite individual. But again, that made me feel appreciated and it made my day.
So the lessons. Be polite to each other, and acknowledge those that are polite to you, because in the end, not alot of people give that effort anymore, and it's the most worthwhile thing in this world to try to keep.
