“Anyway,” Arthur finished. “Let’s give our lovely bride and wolfish groom a chance to start the dancing this evening.”
Everyone seemed to cheer as the two of them stepped out onto the dance floor. He watched her the entire time. He watched the shy smile on her pink face as he led her onto the floor. Luckily she was wearing ballerina slippers with her dress, to minimize the chance of her falling and breaking her neck. It would have really been a shame for such a thing to happen when she looked so lovely.
She had settled on long hair in her natural mousy brown hair for their day, with two streaks of pink framing her face. Her mother had fixed it up so that Tonks had a mound of curls and flowers on top of her head. The white of her dress seemed to shine against her dark skin. Like any bride, she had wanted to look wonderful for her wedding day, but unlike most brides she hadn’t had to purchase useless tanning potions to get her darkened skin.
She was breathtaking. And she had taken Remus’ breath away when he first saw her step out of Madam Maxime’s carriage. In fact, he had almost passed out. Luckily, Bill was there to keep him from doing so.
So many things had happened between them in the years past. He had hesitated to admit his feelings for her, he had been ashamed of his feelings for her. He had tried to deny the feelings, pushed her away. In spite of it all, it had led them to this place. So many rough spots between the two of them had led them to this moment.
Their first dance as husband and wife.
He wanted hold her close to him, not wanting to put so much as a centimeter of space between them. She looked up at him and smiled as the music began to play. He swept her across the floor and, for some reason, was not surprised that she was able to keep up without one faltered step. After about a minute, other began to join them on the floor. Remus and Tonks reduced their waltz to nothing more than a slow, steady sway. He was finally able to hold her close. Her head rested perfectly onto his shoulder. His slow breathing tickled her ear.
His hand drifted to her stomach and he heard her chuckle. There had been bets as to how long it would take Remus and Tonks to get married. There was talk after their son was born that it would be “any day now”.
But, their son RJ was a toddling little child that had acted as their ring bearer. In fact, it wasn’t until Tonks had found out about a second child being on the way that the two had decided to get married…
“You know, we should just get married,” Tonks had said. “If we hurry we can get it done before this one starts to show.”
“Think we can plan it in less than two months?” Remus had asked.
“Honestly Remus,” Tonks had snorted. “You don’t think Molly and I haven’t been planning it since RJ was born?”
So, Tonks and Remus had put all of the plans into action and set a date. And here they were. Husband and wife. Molly was close by, dancing with RJ on her hip. The toddler was grinning happily as his godmother whirled him around.
“Auntie Molly,” little RJ said. “Mum and Dad said I was going to have a little brother or sister!”
“So that’s why they got married,” Molly laughed. “It seems your Uncle Arthur owes me a few knuts.”
Remus and Tonks looked at each other and couldn’t help but laugh.
