Week in Review: 21-22
My life:
Well, the school year has now started, so I figue I should take this thing out of mothballs and actually do it. Mostly, this will be for various things going on around school and for me to have a 'cheat sheet' for my weekly phone calls to mom [which she forces me to do]. And yes, I realize that a week hase more than two days. Shut up.
21 Aug: Saturday
This day started... well, early. Hopefully I never have to get up at 5:30 again. After getting a quick breakfast consisting of half a muffin and a breakfast drink, we were off. Surprisingly, I did not need to use my MP3 player on the trip at all, as my dad and I were able to fill the hours with talking. Surprisingly, we talked about politics. Now, my dad is a conservative, and with some recent events, doesn't like Kerry that much. And he thinks Michael Moore is a liar. However, I found myself agreeing with some of his points, even though I still hate Bush. And Moore is still an idiot. Also, the trip only lasted 4 hours, mostly because my dad likes to just drive, and we only stopped once to top off the fuel tank.
Once we got to the school, getting settled in was remerkably easy. I didn't forget anything of import, and I had enough sockets to pug in all of my electronics. Though I am kind of out of readially accessable sockets, which is kind of a bummer. Oh well, live and learn. I said hello to a couple of friends of mine, got a high five from one of them as well. My dad says he was proud of that, but I don't really understand why. I have, so far, gotten along with my roommate and he seems like a cool guy. He plays guitar, likes a lot of the music I listen to, and k=is kind of a luddite when it comes to computers. But teh best part is that he was willing to move his furnature around so we have much more floorspace right now which is always a plus. Though I am jealous of the other Brent's "infinate desk" setup, but mostly because he happens to have 7 computers on it. Damn Computer Engineering majors, making me jealous...
At night, two things happened: I went to an event on campus know as an "Up All Night", a late night event for people who just don't want to go to bed at a reasonable hour, and I painted a brick to use a doorstop, because hey, free brick. Also, it began to rain. Not a lot, only a heavy drizzle, but it is still wierd to see that after a summer of 80+ temperatures.
22 Aug: Sunday
And on Sunday, it was still raining. And it was still disconcerting. This day was really boring. Classes had yet to start, so no homework, and there wasn't much to do besides. The only major event of this day was going to the Bookie to get my textbooks, and to find my usual route blocked by construction. And there wasn't a way to sneak around the edges: this thing was from building to building, so I had to take a long way round. It wasn't that much of a trouble, though I dislike the idea of "Surprise!" situations like that. I got all the books I needed [at least, all I hope I need >_o ] as well as other supplies and went back to my dorm.
Our hall had a mandatory hall meeting followed by mandatory floor meetings. The net result being that the entire dorm all went for food at the exact same time, so a couple of friends of mine decided to pitch in and buy some pizza. And not normal pizza. There is a local place here that sells pizzas that are, I believe, nearly 3 feet accross. And they got two of them. When all was said and done, we could only go through one of them. And I have to say that breakfast bacon on a pizza is ungodly good.
I was also informed that Jason, one of my floormates, had established a reputation in his dorm that all of the RAs had to be trained for. They refer to them as a "Naked Jason situation". Such as someone purposely taking a shower when there is a fire alarm, just so he could stand outside with only a washcloth. I hope that we won't need to experience that. >_o
