Floating along... looking for the shore...?

As cool as some parts of my job are, it is just not the right situation for me. Since what little money it brings in is better than nothing, and since my work schedule allows for a lot of free time, I can keep doing it until I find something else... but I really need to find something else. I am just not a commission-only kinda person (as in, I'm not the high-pressure type and I don't have other income).

I have two interviews next week, and I really have my fingers crossed. One is a prop house out in LA. It's a commute, but the pay is decent and I would get to work with set designers--helping them rent props for movies, which would be *kewl!*

The other is sort of like getting my old job back, almost. It is pretty much exactly what I used to do, except for a textbook publisher instead of a magazine publisher. The pay is good, and it's just a block down the street.

It isn't fun design-related work, but at least it would be something I can handle. In fact, in terms of my career goals and whatnot, it would be sort of like I never got laid off in the first place. I could go back to what I previously had in mind to do: get into design when I'm ready, not just when I get "thrown out thar" as they say.

I sure do hope I get one of them. There are so many things I would rather be thinking about than "job-job-job" all the time. That was the one thing I always liked about my old job: although it was dull, it was dependable enough that I could think of other things. I miss that. (That, and being able to shop!)

Wish me luck!
