Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou #4
Nyanko-sensei wakes up one morning and finds that he's laid an egg! LOL! Just kidding :p It's an abandoned egg Takashi found the other night, he's just using Nyanko-sensei to warm it up until it hatches :p
Takashi sees some scribblings outside the Fujiwara house that changes everyday since he found the egg. Soon he realizes that they're old symbols for numbers, counting down daily. The one who writes them is a mysterious youkai who's after the egg; he wants to eat the hatchling D: Of course Takashi won't let him have it!
Finally the egg hatches. Instead a cute baby bird, we get an extremely kawaii chibi youkai! He (her? Oh well, let's just assume it's a boy) has human form, except he's tiny and has a pair oh horns on his head. This kind of youkai is called tatsumi; once they hatch, they will take the form of whatever living thing that they first set eyes on (in this case, the chibi sees Takashi so he takes a human form). They will grow up fast and when they're big enough they'll transform to their true form and set off to another place.
So Takashi and Nyanko-sensei look after him. He gets a lot bigger in just a few days (or weeks? The timeline is not very clear here ^^;). Nyanko-sensei gives him a name: Tama-chan (because he came out from an egg/tamago ^^;).
One night Tama looks like he's feeling ill. He won't eat anything. When Takashi's heading to the kitchen to get him some milk, a rat runs past him. Turns out it's the youkai from the other day! D: Nyanko-sensei attacks him but he's quicker and binds sensei with a seal. Takashi uses this chance to grab Tama and escapes from the window.
Takashi then realizes that the chibi isn't actually sick, but he's been holding back his growth by not eating (or so I think. Keyhole was bad tonight so I couldn't hear the dialogues well). He doesn't want to grow and transform to his true form and leave Takashi. But Takashi tells him that he doesn't have to leave (aww...).
The bad youkai catches up and Takashi has nowhere to run. Just when the youkai's attack is about to hit them, Tama transforms! He's true form is something like a huge bird (kind of like a mix between bird and dragon). He beats the bad youkai easily and is about to kill him, luckily Takashi manages to calm him down.
Tama takes takashi and Nyanko-sensei on his back, heading back home. Then it's farewell time. Tama (in his true form) sets out on his journey, leaving Takashi and Nyanko-sensei ;_;
We'll miss you, Tama-chan!
Preview for #5... Who's that kid? A youkai? I don't remember ever seeing him (her? >_>) in the manga.
