Kakuzu x Hidan RecList!
So, I've been sitting on this one for a while, trying to get it into shape, but it needs to just be done already, so here it is. I've briefly assembled some of my very favorite KakuHida fics here, not at all a complete list of my favs, but as you see, I've provided synopses after each one, so I had to really pick and choose. I'd love to see your own recommendations in comments! Each of my recs has a brief summary, along with ratings. I've tried to warn for gore and violence etc b/c I realize not all people find these things palatable! The author's summary for the story is in " " and any excerpts are in purple.

Genre: Horror/Romance (I think horror refers to the GORE!!!)
Summary: “No one ever expected them to get along, it seemed inevitable that they hate each other. But underneath each argument and fight there lurked something stronger.”
If you find gore squicky, you will want to skip parts of the first chapter A LOT. Luscious is the only way to describe this fic. The gore does make you squirm, but not in that squicky way, it is totally sexy *shivers in delight*; and the development of their relationship, how they dance around each other is very IC, which I love! Amazing and compelling descriptions really flesh out the work, and the scenes and events really transpire to make a really terrific story.

Rating: R+ (w/ lots of blood and very slight gore)
Genre: Romance/Adventure
Summary: “He wanted to kill him. He wanted to murder him. He wanted to...love him. A story of the strangest Akatsuki pair, with action, romance, humor, and the strangest fetishes this side of Konoha.”
Newly partnered, Hidan and Kakuzu getting to know how to work with each other. With liberal amounts of ULTRA SMOKIN’ HOT ATHLETIC HATESEX. The way the author writes them both so canon is amazing, and the selection of words paints fierce and dynanic scenes, I love it.
“Ah Jashin-sama!” Hidan cried out to his god, then to Kakuzu.” You’re the fucking sex.”

A cute fic in which Kakuzu gets some fanservice from a little girl.

I’ll totally spoil the fic if I try and summarize it, but it is short and sweet and epic, I am obsessed with this type of idea- the different paths of immortality- true immortality and the lengths that Hidan will go to for Kakuzu.

If you are squeamish about graphic violence/gore at all, this is not for you. Wow. That pretty much sums up this fic. One of my favorite favorites. The authoress, is beyond amazing; the characters are done so very well, Kakuzu is just *shudders* brilliant. Here he is feeling out the bounds of Hidan’s immortality. “Hidan watches Kakuzu loosen the skin between his shoulders so the mask child can step back in, lifting one leg with a stupid daintiness, and then the other.”

Rating: Adult ++ (has some gore; angst, BDSM)
Genre: Angst, drama, romance
Summary: Control, hate, pain, pleasure, and inflicting your own will on someone else. A very persuasive and smut-tastic fic that examines Hidan’s apparent masochism at the hands of his partner. The character introspection and insight of this fic is really good.

Summary: “A grotesque sadomasochistic mockery of a love-affair. Is it of any worth?.”
The chapter ‘Tattered Dolls’’ is the one I really like. A bit macabre, with a kind of humorously terrible bartering situation between Kakuzu and a kid. But honestly, Kakuzu is pretty merciful, so props to that, and it is a rather tragically funny juxtaposition of the realities of ninja life and his own obsession with things of value, monetary or otherwise.

Genre: Drama, tragedy, angst
Summary: “He could never REALLY forget the best eleven years of his life. Not he, the everlasting martyr.../ A background story, Hidan's POV.” I’ll admit, I’m a sucker for backstory, and this story delivers. Very creative, I thought, in how Hidan becomes recruited into the fold and a good character study as to what made him the unbalanced wild fury he is in the manga.

Rating: M (Angst, violence, language)
Genre: Drama/Tragedy
Summary: (A 2-shot) Overall a bleak story of Hidan’s history- harsh, but beautifully written. So many phenomenal snippets of fic melded together here. I love intallah’s writing style, so visual and textured, rich, splendid. You should see previous stories first- lots on the LJ that aren’t on ff.net; find them at ff.net or at LJ (check the ‘Hidan’ and ‘Kakuzu’ and KakuHida tags for more) or this will make less sense than it should when taken together within the context of the others. Oh- BTW, read everything by this author. Pure gold, each one.

Heh, oh boy. Kakuzu deals with the stresses of his partnership with Hidan by turning to God for help (this is indeed true! from a certain point of view XD). Hidan eventually catches up with him, but he isn’t quite himself. The tone and imagery are gorgeous, and the characterization is brilliant!

Genre: SMUT!
Summary: “This entry contains graphic language and heavy BDSM.If you are remotely squeamish about blood - this is NOT the letter for you.” Wow, this one knocks my socks off everytime! An AU in which Kakuzu embraces his violent nature, and Hidan embraces his masochistic tendencies. In a very hot way. Like, way past nuclear fission hot! Also really nails their attitudes and personalities down pat, which further adds to the fun.

Definitely not for the faint of heart! Violent and intense, the language is masterfully chosen to depict the horror in vivid imagery. Very believable, very IC, very very hot and heavy and bloody. Neither Kakuzu nor Hidan can resist the destructive allure of the other despite how bad it is for themselves, and they crash into each other to mutual detriment.

Summary: “Hidan backstory---he was born into hatred.”
Yes, another by starstruck2, I will probably end up rec’ing each and every one of them. Anyhow…This story is another one that delves into Hidan’s past, and again what we find is not all rainbows and butterflies. He is alienated by his family, hungers for more from life and is driven along a path of anger and destruction.
