I put together another run to the northern Great Plains. I had a really productive few days in Kansas, with a few local shipments, including vintage tractors. Google Maps seems to be easily confused by rural areas, and when it doesn't know an address, it seems to just make something up. I ended-up in a field that a segment of the county road dead-ended into. I really needed to go about 10 miles further south, where another segment of that road dead-ended into the guy's farm.
For better or worse, I shuffled my stops partway through, adding a lot more miles, but maintaining enough deck space to get things done. It was not as lucrative per mile as I'd planned, but still very good for the slow season. I hit a blizzard head-on in the middle of Minnesota, but got through the front by the time I reached Moorhead, MN/Fargo, ND. The rest of the run, I was just dealing with some sections of icy and snowpacked roads.
I also passed somewhat close to some more landmarks from family vacations in the 80s, mostly related to the Little House books, including De Smet, SD, and Plum Creek, MN. I didn't really feel like going out of the way to visit those sites, I wonder how much attention they get these days, with the books presumably being less popular, relevant, and politically correct. I've felt moderately disappointed when visiting other sites from family vacations, I guess like many things, it's best to have old memories than being underwhelmed with new adventures.
Speaking of leaving memories alone, I watched The Neverending Story on Youtube a couple of weeks ago, first time in decades. While the synthpop theme music was excellent, the movie itself is definitely dated. Maybe it's just because it was really aimed at kids, but the plot was pretty shallow and I found the protagonist to be completely unlikable and unsympathetic, and a pretty bad actor compared to the rest of the cast. I liked that movie more when I hadn't seen it since 1984...
