When he's not overtired or schmoozing with commoners that perhaps are not worth his time, Kyouya can be charming. Haruhi sees the indifferent side to his personality, and he explains that he doesn't feel the need to be otherwise if there is no merit to it. But he disproves that claim the same day, deterring a woman from buying fake pottery. After all, it is the purpose of the Host Club, to bring fortune to women, and though he tries to justify it, claiming she is a woman with business connections that would benefit his family, he really did it just to be helpful and make her happy. In the same way, he is tolerant of the fawning of their customers. He doesn't participate in the events to the same degree that the others do, often seen standing at the sidelines with his black book, but that's not to say he doesn't willingly take on their manner of dress and the role for each event and treat each customer with care and finesse. His persona is the "cool" one, almost always composed, smiling, but detached. When the others freak out and fly off or run away, it's usually just him (and/or Haruhi) standing there unaffected. His glasses don't even move.
But he's not unaffected. He is moved by Tamaki. As many times as he mocks him, he obviously cares for him. Their friendship may have begun as an advantageous connection to a business partner, at the behest of his father, but within months, before the Host Club was formed, that changed for Kyouya. Just short of nearly strangling Tamaki, the other boy realized how unhappy Kyouya was in his position of youngest brother, struggling for his father's favor, so serious, destined to be outdone. And something in Tamaki's flash of sincerity and insight saved him a sound beating and actually made Kyouya laugh. It moved him. His sister saw it too, as Kyouya struggled to "best" the other boy, treating their initial friendship in the same way he would any task, wanting to be perfect and to have the upper hand. But obviously it was already changing young Ootori, because his room was a mess and he was no longer calm and emotionless, flitting about agitated and ultimately beating on the couch cushions.
There is a teasing side to Kyouya. Like the twins, he likes to push Tamaki in subtle ways, just to watch him unravel. At the same time, he was the first to notice that Haruhi was a girl, likely the first to realize that Tamaki liked her, and yet he kept this information and used it to his advantage. He makes a point to be well-informed in all things, but he also has a habit of withholding information or even discarding it if it is not of use to him. Because of this, many situations unfold long before Kyouya steps in with said information and saves the day, sometimes simply for the sake of teaching a lesson or gaining a reaction, but he still comes through in the nick of time.

[Abilities]
Kyouya is an excellent multitasker. He can type/write and talk with ease. He is technologically savvy (cell phones, laptops, projection equipment, digital/visual display).
He has a world at his fingertips pretty much due to his family connections. That won't exist in Somarium, but back home he could easily car for a ride, for police help, for information. Of course, he's also very good at finding information on his own, looking into the backgrounds of each student at Ouran he comes across, including their family background, their fortune, their personality, and their grades.
He has the ability to remain straightfaced under a number of crazy circumstances.
He doesn't scare easily. He isn't easily moved to tears, though hearing Tamaki play the piano for the first time manages it (leak that information and he might have a contract out on your life, j/k).
He is very good at "civil negotiation".
He likes to keep his glasses perfectly adjusted, constantly fidgeting with them.
He's well-informed and intelligent, and if it's not something he would innately know or has learned during his schooling, Kyouya will look into it and strive to learn/master everything he can.
He's a very deep sleeper until he's finally up and functioning.
Otherwise, he's perfectly human, no magical powers or special gifts.

Kyouya thinks a certain amount of skin-exposure is acceptable (and GOOD for business!)
He is the "shadow King" of the Host Club, and unwittingly Haruhi's "mom", whenever Tamaki ("Dad") refers to him as such. You'd think he'd balk at the title, but no, he just plays right along.
When asked what he writes in his notebook, Kyouya says everything. Personally, I think he doodles, likely stick-figures of Tamaki being ridiculous.
Kyouya writes calligraphy with style.
Kyouya makes a hot vampire.
Kyouya also looks hot in a kimono.
Kyouya is hot, period. Moving on...

[First Person]
(ooc: Under the presumption that the interviewer is likely male and he sees no real merit in trying to impress said person)
- What were you doing before now?
I was dancing. A pity you had to come along and interrupt, at just such a time. I usually don't refuse to take part in Host events simply to humor nosey strangers. Maybe I should have declined this interview.
- If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?
Egoist. Are you familiar with the term? If you like, I can pull up a definition for you.
- If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
I have the Ootori private police on speedial. It's a simple matter of flipping open my phone and holding the button down. An army of men would be on their way.
- Would you consider yourself a power hungry individual?
Not necessarily. I used to strive only to do as my father wished, to impress him and acquiesce to his wishes. But it was not enough to rate at the top of my class. Both of my older brothers managed that and had moved onto medical school, in pursuit of a career that would benefit the family business. My place is a little different. But for so long, I wanted nothing more than to fill the role of third son, only to do as I was told and support my older brothers, for the benefit of our family.
But to better answer your question, there is a certain hunger to anyone who strives for perfection, isn't there?
- Someone comes to you to ask for the time. How would you respond?
That's simple. I would respond with the time. What a boring question.
- Someone is trying to rob you! What do you do? Refer to the speed dial again, although it would not be a terrible loss if I misplaced my wallet. Credit cards are easily canceled at a phone call, and I don't carry absurd amounts of cash around with me.
- If I offered to save your soul for a price, would you go with it and why?
What is your just price for my soul? Can you even settle for a monetary sum? And what exactly would my price be paying for? Is there a guarantee with a transaction like that, or are you just a clever con out to swindle an unassuming young rich boy for his family's wealth? [Grin] That's interesting.
- Do you stand up against authority, go against all odds, and if you could, pierce the heavens with your fighting spirit? If not, would you if you could?
You really enjoyed heating things up with that last question or so, didn't you? Your flare for drama has perhaps veered off the original course. I can't really take you seriously now, you realize.
- Would you consider yourself a hero or a villain? Why? Neither is an option as well, but still tell why.
I think they're both extreme. I'm a student, a Host, and a son. I wouldn't go so far as to say I aspire to save the world or destroy it. I simply want to succeed. Is there something wrong with that?

"Kyouya?" a timid female voice interrupted his pen mid-line. He glanced up from his notebook, one brow raised. The lack of honorifics was something he had gotten used to during his time in Somarium, except when addressed by those who were originally from Japan (or at least were politely raised).
"Yes?"
"I was wondering..." she trailed off, biting her lower lip in indecision.
"Yes?" He prompted again, lowering his pen. Wedging it between pages to keep his mark, Kyouya closed his notebook and focused his attention solely on the girl. Of course, he was mentally trying to solve a particularly challenging algebra problem, but on the surface he was smiling and receptive.
"I was wondering if you would like to go to the Christmas ball with me."
How forward. Was it not usually the role of male classmen to invite the ladies to social events?
No matter. He had no particular plans of escorting anyone. He only knew that attendance would be required, at Tamaki's behest. And if it would please the girl, then he would be doing her a service. She was a second year high school student, if memory served, a local girl from a middle class family, who spent most of her time in class looking longingly out the window as if there was something secretly fascinating about the fields in the distance.
While there was nothing to be said for her pedigree or her pointed lack of interest in academics, as a local she might be a wealth of information on Somarium, first-hand accounts he couldn't access simply by reading up on the limited material in the library or asking around.
His eyes shrewd, but his smile inviting, Kyouya spoke her name softly and smiled. "It would be an honor."
He waited patiently as she squealed and blushed and then quickly left the room to report to her girlfriends. In the interim, Kyouya returned his attention to his notebook, realizing the answer to the problem. He finished the line with particular satisfaction, putting the chattering girls in the hallway completely out of mind.
