Lydia goes to Sanditon for the summer with Mary. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" Mary asks as Lydia is driving them there. It's a question she's asked non-stop since Lydia accepted Gigi's invitation.
"God, Mary," Lydia groans. "Stop being such a worry-wart! It'll be totz fun. A whole town being recorded for the world to see? Can't you just taste the drama from here?"
Mary raises an eyebrow. "So you're okay?"
Lydia glances over at Mary with a smile. "I'm okay, I swear."
"Good, now keep your eyes on the road so we don't crash before we get there."

(I would technically never cast Ryo in this AU, but it was the first thing I thought of for this prompt.)
"Just--" Ryo gasps as Maki slowly inserts her hand into the hole in the middle of his chest. Her face is a combination of concentration and trepidation.
"It'll be okay," she murmurs, and Ryo knows, because he designed this whole thing and he knows that this stray wire will not ruin anything or kill him, but he lets her say it anyway. It seems to calm her down more than anything.
"Just make sure not to--" he starts, but Maki's already pulled the wire full out of the hole along with the magnet at the end. "Oh. Well."
Maki's eyes go wide, panic quickly filling them. "What just happened? Why is everything beeping"I'm about to go into cardiac arrest, nothing big," Ryo manages, but he can already feel his breath quickening. He doesn't want her to know though, wouldn't ever want her to realize. "Just put the replacement in and it'll be okay ( ... )

Temporarily Complicated *happy sigh* I should reread that too. But I loved this. And I swear only you have the power to make me feel so much love an nostalgia for NEWS. I love Maki's quip about his clothing and the discotheque bathroom. Because if anyone would have one of those, a JE boy would.

"Ricky~" Lydia sing-songs, poking Ricky's cheek. She hasn't really drank that much during dinner, but it's worth it to see the cringe Ricky makes whenever her finger touches him.
"Mr. Collins, I'd prefer," he manages, but the shakiness of his voice makes Lydia giggle into his shoulder.
"I thought I heard you were in Canada, Ricky. How's your fiance?" Lydia asks, still keeping up her poking. "Is she okay? How is she? What's she like? Does she even really exist?"
Ricky's eyes go wide and he starts to open his mouth, but Lydia persists. "I mean, it's okay if she doesn't. We'd all understand if you made her up to seem--"
"I assure you," Ricky says, voice rough but firm. "That she is well and alive in Manitoba ( ... )

It's not as though Winston hates the idea of Nick and Jess together. If anything, he's seen just how good Jess can be for Nick. He's never had the most confidence in himself, which is at the very center of Nick's usual inactivity. But Jess helps him with that, helps him realize that he can do more than he thinks himself capable. And i's not like Jess hasn't changed in their friendship either; she's toned down much more, mellowed from that manic, extra frantic girl that had first moved into the loft.
So yes, Winston can see how good they are for each other. How much they smile in each other's presence. How much despite the arguments they so obviously care for each other.
But damnit, the loft is theirs, and if this doesn't work out as well as they think, Winson knows it'll be filled with regrets and tears and uncomfortableness, and that in itself is a bad idea.
At least, Schmidt veto-ed his original idea which involved taking Jess out to the dessert.
